How many RHs did you visit?

Original post by mls282

So I am going through my list and I keep adding and taking one's off. Mind you I haven't visited a single one. I will only be on Long Island 3 days... and so far my list is at 23 reception halls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I was just curious.... How many did you visit before you decided on the one?

We saw like 30...LITERALLY....we were having a small wedding though and nobody wanted to deal with us. One reception hall even threw us out....

Re: How many RHs did you visit?

I can probably narrow it down to 20... but is 20 in 3 days ridiculous???? When you make call to make an appt to go in do you have to give a specific time?? I am jsut going to be traveling from one to the next so it wouldnt be realistic to set times. Maybe an approx time but not actual appt times. hmmm....

Re: How many RHs did you visit?

Me & FH looked at 9 RH's we checked out 4 in LI, 1 in Brooklyn, 1 in Queens & 3 in Manhattan and have still not decided on a place.

I did see the Winter Garden Room - which is at Fox Hollow but I am 90% sure there is no outdoor ceremony area there... so you might want to cut that off the list.

Westbury Manor suits you the best because it has gorgeous grounds with ducks & peacocks & parrots running around. Its beautiful it is def. one of my top choices.

Swan Club is also nice but unless you have the large room, you will hate the chairs. Also the ceremony is held outside but in a glass enclosed long hallway kind of thing..it does it have water and foot bridges which is nice for pictures - i think i also might have seen a gazebo.

hope this helps.

We looked at 4 halls (I also had about 20 halls on my list), and the 4th one was it! I noticed that Woodbury Country Club is on your list - feel free to fm me if you have any specific questions. They were absolutely amazing - my friends and family are still talking about our wedding (7 months later!).

if you go on a weekend you probably will need appointments because they could possibly be holding a wedding.

swan club will show between 9-11 on saturday mornings and westbury manor shows all day long even on the weekends...

I saw 3 - The Inn being the last and the winner!

I would narrow down your list. 23 halls will be overwhelming and just leave you completely confused.

if you visit that many in a span of 3 days (which i dont even think is humanly possible) you run the risk of thaving them all blur together into one and get you even more confused ....

Re: How many RHs did you visit?

fh and i saw 10.

do you want a specific month or day? Cause a way you can narrow down would be to call the places and see if they even have anything available. I wanted to see like 2 other halls, but they were already booked for the days I was looking for.

Fox hollow does have an outdoor ceremony site at least it shows pics of them on their website so I am assuming

You are probably right about swan club. I think that may be a case for a few of them. The pretty rooms are the big rooms and with my 130 guest list I am not going to get the room I actually like. I think thats the same problem with east wind. I would be in Country Gardens. i dont think its my thing.... but my Mom is making me check it out b/c she loves it. ugh!

Re: How many RHs did you visit?

well you can automatically delete some of those if you are planning on a saturday evening wedding.
alot of places had high minimums for satruday night.

my guest list is only 100 and we want satuday evening so we are very limited.

Re: How many RHs did you visit?

I am not planning Saturday evening wedding. I am planning A friday evening one but even that is flexible. I could do a Thursday night one if over the summer or even a Sunday evening one over the summer. Thats the glory of working for a school system. My FH might not be too thrilled though as his friends and fam are traeling from Boston. So I am trying to stick to a Friday or Sunday. I dont want to inconvenience them too much.

We saw 6:

Milleridge Inn Carriage House
Westbury Manor
Crest Hollow Country Club
Chateau Briand
Fox Hollow
Jericho Terrace

You can have an outdoor ceremony at FH. You can FM me for details if you'd like.

Some were off the list as soon as we walked in... Some it was a matter of the 'look' we wanted. When we went to see Fox Hollow we loved it, and we would have booked it on the spot, but I saw one more hall on my list 'just in case'. I had a list of like 15, but after seeing 6 we knew we had to make a decision or it would start to run together, and I wanted RH shopping to be fun... 6 was a good number.

When I started looking (even after I fell in love with the Woodlands) I felt that I had to look at every RH, just in case I was missing out on one. This is your wedding day and you want it to be perfect but, don't purposefully drive yourself crazy. You should really elimate some from that list. I looked at 12 and I was totally overwhelmed. Figure out which ones have what your want: Price range, location, food, etc. and narrow it down. Don't drive yourself crazy. I looked at 3 that were on your list. I will be more then happy to answer any ? you may have.
