In a perfect world, I'd like to buy a house and have it set up before we get married. Not necessarily living in it. But I don't know if we will have the money. I am thinking of renting or buying something smaller first. And then saving for the big dream home.

We're [hopefully] buying a house within the next couple months. We're starting to apply for mortgages, etc... We're going to the lawyer tonight to get contracts and paperwork done. FH will live in it/ fix it up until we get married next year. I won't move in until after the big day..
Payments are gunna be ROUGH but if you stumble upon something you have to just jump in and buy it! Especially on LI

We bought a condo last summer ...we plan on staying there for about 3 more years and then hopefully purchase a home on long island but who knowws if we will be able to afford it.

After the wedding not now. Too many things going on right now. We will be renting until after the wedding then we can put our time and energy into looking for something.

We bought our house in July of 2004. We were looking for 2 years and I told my fiance that after this house we are done house hunting and it turned out to be the one. I know how frustrating it can be but don't just settle for something because its a house. I work for a mortgage company and have seen the market slowing down so prices are plateauing at this point so be patient and it will happen. :)
We bought ours in March. We didn't buy it on our own. His brothers bought it with us. There is an apartment upstairs, downstairs, and we live on the main floor. It was the house that FH grew up in so his mom gave it to them for $125,000 less than what it was appraised at. Which means it's like putting 125K down so no downpayment was needed. Otherwise, we would have bought the house first and put the wedding off for a later date. It's been great! No one bothers anyone and everyone has thier seperate space. We all get along so that helps too. I do like the fact that when I'm home alone i'm not really home alone. I feel safer that way.

we're renting right now, but would LOVE to buy eventually. the problems? we're not sure exactly where we want to be yet, though ny is presently on top - we'll decide that when i finishe grad school. our other problem is we have no money. =0\ we want to pay off my student loans before we invest in anything like that so we're living off of his salary and putting all of mine to towards then. if everything goes according to plan we should have it paid off in three years. that's IF i get this job i'm applying for, if not, i'll be going to expensive grad school and add more onto my debt.. .

OOOOOO in a perfect world we would all have a house and be neighbors!!! It would be a dream come true to have a house by the wedding but the unfortunate reality is that it will not be possible for us

We bought our house in april of 05...we've never been happier...it feels great to pay for your own home...never dread the mortgage payment the way i hated paying rent. we lucked out, florida prices are more doable than ny prices are...but they are steadily climbing and making it harder for some friends to buy houses down here.
