Original post by michellecarin

what is the proper amount for FH and I to give for a wedding this coming sat. FH is the BM. He is also FH's BM. The wedding is in Rochester. What would you recommend being the proper gift?

Give what you can afford. I would think anywhere from $200 - $500. Like others said- They will most likely turn around and give the same back to you for your wedding.

If you can afford it, I agree with the $400 to $500. I don't agree with spending more than you can afford though. So, give what you can, and if you can give $500, then that's what you should do.

I wish FH would have been able to read this thread a week ago before the wedding we had to go to. FH was the BM in a wedding and he gave $1000!!!! I wanted to KILL him....And this guy is a GM in our wedding, not the BM. So I told FH we better get that back! lolol I was freakin all night that we wouldnt have anymore money left for the things we needed to do. But FH always has a little plan in the back of his head before he does anything. So we are back on track with our savings already...FH has always been a way to generous gift giver

i agree... give what you can afford. I've heard a lot of people in my family say they aren't going to weddings because they can't afford it...some people just can't afford to give a hundred or more dollars every time they go to a wedding. and i don't think people should be made to feel that way. If you can't afford to give hundreds of dollars than you shouldn't and you shouldn't have to feel bad about it either. When you are in the BP you pick up a lot of expenses... and some people struggle to be a part of a wedding cause it can be very expensive.. so i think you should only give that much if it's what you can afford.

If you can give without it being a problem financially then i say 200-500 is a great gift ..
