about $10,000 the per plate cost of all their guests.

It's one thing to not have the funds, it's another to actually tell your son and his future wife that they do not want to help you for your wedding.
Yep..I've been dating my FH for years and I'd lie if I didn't say I feel differently towards my FFIL after he said that. To sit at a table and tell me he doesn't want to pay made me see him in a new light.
Their lifestyle has always been shifted towards how much they could spend on themselves, while my parents gave my brother and I every extra dollar and sacrificed for us. It's stunning what you learn about the family you're marrying into during the wedding process.

They're splitting the Reception with my Parents - so approximately $6,500 & I think the Rehersal Dinner.

A Big fat ZERO! !! ! ! and the sad part is that they brag about how much money they have!!! cheap cheap cheap. I really can not stand them.
Hmmm..sounds strangely familiar. They just recently bought a $1,300 Palm tree for their house in Florida..isnt that special?????
Please don't take this the wrong way ladies...but in my honest opinion...no one is OBLIGATED to pay for YOUR wedding...calling soemone cheap b/c they aren't contributing is really harsh.

ETA: We are very greatful for whatever ANYONE gives us...no one is obligated to give us anything...it's our Wedding...not everyone else's...it's 2005!

But it's also their SON'S wedding and THEIR guests. No obligation but while you're struggling to fund this wedding to marry their son while they flaunt their wealth in front of you is wrong too. Just IMO.

Re: How much $ are grooms parents chipping in?
10k + rehersal dinner. At first they weren't going to give anything bc they felt it was my parents obligation to pay for the whole thing. Which would be fine but there are 3 other girls including me. Also I make more than my parents and its no much believe me.

My parents thank goodness they are so generous are paying for pretty much everything with the exception of the church, rehersal dinner and a few other things with FH's parents will take care of.

They said they're paying for the RD, but we'll see. We don't mind paying for everything ourselves. Our day, our way!

Re: How much $ are grooms parents chipping in?
Goose egg!
We asked them to pay for the rehearsal dinner and the Rabbi. No dice. They don't believe in rehearsal dinners, and they said they'd be helping us out and never committed to an amount of money. But now they're telling us 'just elope' because they never wanted us t get married in the first place.

Sure, no one is obligated, but if they're insisting on everyone and their mother attending the wedding, it would be nice for them to contribute, IMO. Let's face it, do you think it would fly in most families if you cut out half of their family (or yours) if you couldn't afford it?

Re: How much $ are grooms parents chipping in?
They offered to pay for our band and help us out if we need any help at all....we're already set with our budget and will have enough to pay for what we're paying for.....so I think their present to us will probably be funds we'll use towards our honeymoon/house fund.
They're being incredibly generous as are my parents.

Re: How much $ are grooms parents chipping in?
nada! they really have no clue about weddings over here in america. my fh brother when he got married they went to the justice of the peace. The same thing his parents did. sooo i dont think they have a clue what is going on.
