His family isn't paying anything. My Mom is getting my dress, invitations and favors. We'll be taking care of everything else ourselves.

We don't have an exact amount, they said they'd pay for photographer, flowers, the band, honeymoon and a day after brunch. We have the photographer and band so far and that's come to a little over $10,000. We're really lucky to have his parents contributing so much and not to restrict us with an amount. My parents on the other hand gave us a lump sum of money, and told us to use it as we saw fit.

Hmmm..sounds strangely familiar. They just recently bought a $1,300 Palm tree for their house in Florida..isnt that special?????
My FIL have 1 son- my FH- 2 Houses- w/o no mortage on either- 2 new cars- so I know it's not money
and we haven't even gotten an engagament gift! even though I was asked what I need for the apartment
and they claim it's b/c my Dad has more money then them- which maybe be true- but my Dad is retired, owns 1 house- and has 3 kids- all of whom he paid for college for

Please don't take this the wrong way ladies...but in my honest opinion...no one is OBLIGATED to pay for YOUR wedding...calling soemone cheap b/c they aren't contributing is really harsh.

MY FIL's have been wonderful. They threw our e-party for us and have just told us they are paying for our band.
This is my 2nd wedding so my parents have contributed the first time around & were kind of hoping we'd decide to get married on an island somewhere this time around.
My parents were very generous w/ our e-party gift and I know they'll contribute what they can for the wedding.
I THINK his parents will pay for the rehearsal dinner, if not I'm sure my parents will.
But his parents have been GREAT!

they paid for our band, photographer, limos, and when we get a florist they are paying for that, and rehearsal dinner, also if they go over their # for reception they said they would cover the extras if there are any
can we say generous??? They are being very generous! I am very fortunate to have my parents and his parents contributing so much!

ZERO. But his dad has passed and his mom is on disability...so I understand why. We are paying for it all by ourselves.

$0, Unfortunately they dont have the money, but my FI and I never expected anything anyway. We are also really proud we can do it ourselves

MY FMIL lives alone on a fixed income so we weren't expecting anything but she offered to help out with the Photographer which I thought was very generous.

Sure, no one is obligated, but if they're insisting on everyone and their mother attending the wedding, it would be nice for them to contribute, IMO. Let's face it, do you think it would fly in most families if you cut out half of their family (or yours) if you couldn't afford it?
Exactly. When my FH's mom heard she was only going to be allowed 35 people (now raised to 50) her face fell so far I was afraid it would never come back to normal!
