You really think Im getting a good deal?
Thanks that makes me feel so much better
I mean if we didnt add V-hour, seafood boat, & wine on tables & the extra hour with viennese
we'd be paying $118 --- which is about $28 difference!!!

if we added everything you had at our reception hall it would have tallied up to 60$ more a person.
We opted for a day event, as I said before to cut costs and not compromise of the menu we wanted. We are still working on some seafood at our CH, we haven't ironed that out yet.

We booked the most basic menu when we originally set the date and have since changed everything! It saved us a ton of money by 'upgrading'. You know what, we counted on that!

here is what we have:

full CH with 18 stations with:
3 carving stations
caviar and vodka bar

6 course meal:

cold anti pasta
salad
pasta course
a choice of 9 entrees including duck and filet mignon
hot anti pasta course
cake and canoli
as well as viennese platter and chocolate covered strawberries
international coffee
wine carts and somelier service
martini bar and signature cocktails

we bargained for ALL OF THIS and paid so very little to add it all!

I want my guests to love our CH, but 20$ pp for a littel seafood is wy too much for me to spend knowing that only half of our guests will indulge in it.

I agree...I went to JT as well and the BM there told me that they look at certain dates (not even necessarily in peak season) and charge more for them because they are a high demand catering hall...Personally I feel that if you go into your catering hall and just express your concerns, they are not going to lower the price, but they may be able to give you some upgrades to make you feel better...Just ask, the worst they can say is NO!!

we knew when we got 2 different prices that we had a strong bargaining tool. FH and I divided and conquered. 2 BM offered us same thing for 10$ difference they so fouled up right there

Re: How much are you paying per person

we guaranteed 175 people for our price - he told us if we could guarantee more than the price would drop pp or we could keep it at 175 for a pp price that was a little higher - at the time we werent even sure if we could guarantee the 175 minimum so we took the higher pp price just so we could get the room - he explained to us that each room has to generate a certain amount of money for a friday, saturday or sunday - im assuming this means that he could give us the room at our minimum which is 175 for say 100 dollars pp which = 17,500 or our minimun could have been 200 at 87.50pp which also = 17,500....so for us either way we'd be paying 17,500 whether there were 175 people or 200 - now im not sure if it works exactly that way but in general that is idea of how it works (at least that is what we were told) so im guessing if we raised the minimum we would have gotten a cheaper pp price and the ending price would be the same or very close....we didnt want to have more than 175 at our wedding - we originally wanted a small wedding - 150 people - and even though we could have invited more people to get the 200 minimum that would also mean more tables which would bring up our florist bill, we'd have to buy more favors, more invitations, etc. so we just did the 175 minimum - we felt the price they were giving us pp was decent for what we were getting and to be honest we went in there expecting to pay a little more than we did so i think we did ok....im hoping that we will get some extras thrown in at the end but im not counting on it - but it would be nice

ETS: we did get some things extras thrown in - they threw in a martini bar at CH without us even asking and he gave us a low price to add in the VH and the chocolate fountain was free. they also gave us this pasta duet thing during dinner for free - in my book its 3pp but after thinking about it we want to change it to the bagel bag at the end of the night which is also 3pp in my book so i dont think they'll give me a problem changing that one thing - well at least i hope not

dont be pissed off - you are getting A LOT of stuff! when we went to JT we expected to spend a certain amount - our pp price was like $20 less than what we thought it was going to be and we got everything that we wanted so we walked out happy - we were afraid that we might not be able to afford it but we were able too - im sure there are brides who got a better deal than me and im sure i got a better deal than some brides - but as long as you are happy and can afford it dont stress it - thats how i feel - i love my RH, we are getting everything we want for a price we can afford and im not going to get upest if someone else got the same for 10 bucks less than me - its just not worth the aggravation - so please dont let it bug you!

Aww thanks Nik!!!!
I know - we felt like we got a great deal when we walked out!!! LOL but to tell you the truth we went to Fox Hollow, Leonards, and Crest Hollow CC and they were all the same prices as CB - maybe like $3 less pp. With the exception of CHCC - they were like 10 more pp & they offered less!!!
OK im feeling better now!!!

i'm kinda pissed right now to find out that gratuity is taxed...how tf do you tax something extra...ITS A DAMN GRATUITY...a gift...a thank you for their service...I mean we already get taxed on the price per person...so to also tax the gratuity...i think thats taking advantage. I really can't stand the bridal industry...its disgusting.

It's actually considered a service fee, not a tip, that's why it's taxed. We still tip people the night of too.

I asked Francessca as well as our BM and they told us the 'fee' is not taxed and it is not necessary to tip any of the serving staff, just the MD and BA as well as valet, coat check and bathroom gals if necessary..........

Since ours is a Saturday night we HAD to guarantee 200 for that room...no if ands or buts....Its funny I think they throw in the same stuff for everyone because we got the martini bar, pasta duet and wine on tables....I'm still gonna try to squeeze an extra hour out of them at the end! We'll see....After reading these posts, I'm shocked by the lower prices out there, but I'm happy with our decision! What's done is done...

wow i really feel like i'm not getting anything.
I even have to pay 1500 just to get an extra room which I NEED for the cocktail hour but they don't just give it to you and if you don't pay for it - then golfers can be there eating dinner..
I had to pay $250 plus tax on an ice scuptur and 140 a head and if I want cordials they are tell me its another $4.00 a head ..... WHAAT????

Needless to say - i'm going to try to tell them to GIVE me the cordials...thanks girls - i see i need to up my bargaining tools!

That gratuity/fee isn't taxed? The 20% one? I knew about not tipping the other staff aside form the MD and the others you listed.

your right - december 6 (that saturday was the day we originally wanted) was already booked for the dome room - we didnt want to do any other saturday dates in december and he told us it was impossible to do 175 on a saturday anyway - we did price a saturday in Jan for the hell of it and i think it was still more than our friday in December - a friday in Jan was the least expensive but we decided to go with December 5 which is our date - and i really wish it was here already!

Re: How much are you paying per person

i just wanted to say--that i see a lot of brides questioning about whether the gratuity is taxed or not.

chances are just about every single hall in all of long island WILL tax the part of your gratuity....because they do not refer to it as a 'gratuity' on your contracts. they refer to it as a 'Service Charge' -- and therefore they can, and DO tax it.

so when you are calculating the cost per person total---add that 20% into the factor WITH tax, not without.

They only made me do 175 guaruntee for my Sat., they had asked for 200 and I didn't think we could meet that for the Dome Room. Then they were like ok..we'll let you have it for a 175 guarantee for the same pp as the skylight room. we don't have any extras really (like I said I'm not a good negotiator). They probably let me do the 175 because I'm the last weekend between Christmas and New Year's.

Wish I had thought about asking for extras but I'm happy with everything we're getting Maybe they'll throw in extras when I go plan the menu.

I also wish my date was already here
