just curious, I know it's customarily 3-5 dollars per person for the maitre d on your wedding day. what are people leaning towards?

That is a great point, that I didn't even realize-our contract has a 18% service charge-doesn't that cover the maitre'd and everyone that is doing the service. why would we tip on top of that? Also, is the tip figured out after the tax? Do we do the service charge on top of the manager's fee of $1.50 pp or before? I think that tipping has gotten so out of control. I have started to see tip containers at supermarkets! I don't know who to tip and how much anymore, I am so confused. I seem to tip everyone these days. I will have to ask the hall what the 18% covers.

there was a $300 maitre d fee..then the tip and then i had 18% service charge on my total balance..so i guess i did

i think it depends on how you feel their service is....a tip is just that...extra money for doing a job you are already getting paid for. If you do a great job, then you should be compensated....they recomended 20% for ours and i was like ummmm thats 3400.....there was NOOOOO way! I told my mom well see the day of how they are but i think 500 is about right....but thats me...dont know anyone else
