How much are your invitations?
I fell in LOVE with a custom invitation, but it's not cheap and I'm having a very hard time paying $12 per invitation when it's simply going to get thrown out. That includes outer envelope with calligraphy, invitation, response card and envelope with calligraphy, 2 sided (church on one side, reception on the other) direction card, reception card and a back pocket.

I made invites- I bought a pocketfold PDF from hesawsparks on etsy.. the seller told me to buy the pocketfolds from cardsandpockets.com and let her know which color I went with, and she matched the pocketfold color to the font color on the invites exactly.. Then i bought Aspire Petallics beargrass colored paper (ivory colored metallic cardstock- $40 for like 400 sheets) and printed them at my college for free (they have really nice laser printers). I also ordered metallic A7 (5x7) and A1 (RSVP) envelopes in the same color as the invitation paper.. I used my FMIL's paper cutter and bought glue dots Michael's to assemble everything.. In total, my invites were $2.71 each including the 66cent postage on the front and the RSVP postage

I like you fell in love with custom invites that were $10 each, realizing that was ridiculous and I decided to go to J & D invitations in Merrick. I sat there looking through books and hated everything, I told them about the invite I loved and showed them a picture and they are making them for me for half the price. Jan and Donna the owners racked their brains to get me what I wanted, go see them and show them the invitation. I'm soooo happy I got what I wanted

I hate to say it, but $12 each sounds about right. That's what I paid.

We went to a wonderful invitation lady but were not willing to pay the quoted $11 per invite. Ultimately we're gping to order off of The American Wedding and looking between $2.50 and $4 depending which ones we pick.

Who did you look at? I'm getting custom invites and we are paying about $6 per invite (plus a $150 printing fee). Our envelopes are going to get printed calligraphy on them as well.I guess it depends on how intricate your design is. I was really happy with our price though.

The thing is i LOVE the invitation lady!!My invitation is a large square with a fairly wide piece of lace. It's the lace that's putting it over the top..

Be careful with square designs - it's extra postage for the shape - ridiculous, i know!

I KNOW!! The lady told me a bride she worked with had a similar invite and the same square shape and her postage was $1.52!!! That's nuts! My friend had a broach on hers and it was only $0.66!!
BTW - Postage is going up in January!

I'm probably the minority, but I have saved every invitation to every wedding I've ever been to. I know people spend a lot of money and I feel bad throwing it out. For a few close friends or weddings I was in, I turned the invitation into some kind of present for them for either christmas or their anniversary. I know not everyone will do that for mine, but if it's what you want, and you feel like you'll be settling otherwise, you'll make it work.Welcome New Vendors
