How much did you pay for your dress?

How much did you pay for your dress?

I was just curious as to how much you ladies paid for your wedding dress. I saw a dress I really liked, but it was over 3,000 and my mom seems to think that 3,500 is a lot to spend on a wedding dress. I've seen dresses that are very similar to this dress, but this dress has swarovski crystals all over the top, which is probably why it's so much more. I'm just wondering whether I should splurge on the swarovski crystals or get a dress that is half the price that just has regular beading/crystals on it. What do you ladies think?

It depends on your personal preference and finances. I personally wouldnt spend that much on a dress I will be wearing for a couple of hours/one day. You can easily shop around and find a gorgeous dress that is under $1500. Try looking at Maggies. I thought there were so many beautiful choices before I settled on the victoriana.

If you can possibly save about $1500, I would go for the one with the regular beading/crystals. It all depends what your budget is. You could use that money for an awesome band or more flowers.

I went in saying I would never spend $5000 on a wedding dress but the more I looked, the less I found and the dress I fell in love with happened to be closer to $5000 than I would have thought. Luckily my mom loved the dress too and was good enough to get it for me.

That's just my story but ultimately it is a personal preference based on your financial situation and your own feelings on spending money and your priorities. I think there are gorgeous wedding gowns at every price.

i would definitely save the money--no one will notice, you'll still look great, and you can use the money for something else. i did not splurge on my gown, and I'm happy I was able to use that money for other things

Depends on your financial situation. I chose not to go overboard and I found a beautiful dress! Even if you find the perfect dress that is designer name, you can always find a similar dress at a similar price point.

Before I went dress shopping I thought I wanted to get a Maggie and spend under $1,500, however I went to the Wedding Salon (upon my mother's urging) and they don't carry Maggies. They carry higher end brands and I fell in love with a Platinum gown, so I went over what I had thought I was going to spend. My mom loved it too, so it was not even an issue with price.

Well my mom is paying for the dress. I went in wanting to spend exactly your budget of $3k, however, I absolutely fell in love with this Ines di Santo gown at it was $4k. My mom had tears and I just felt like I never wanted to take it off. So my mom said if I wanted the dress then I had to pay for the limos, so I said FINE!

I go back next month to meet Ines for measurements and officially order the dress with her personally.

If its the dress you LOVE then my feeling is spurlge, this is a once in a lifetime event and you should feel like a princess, better yet, like a queen!

My mom spent $1500 on it before alterations

I didn't want to spend over $3K for a dress either. I was fortunate enough to find MY dress for under that. I never believed people when they would tell me 'you'll know the dress when you try it on' after trying on so many, it was such a great feeling to try on 'the one'. You really do just know. If you are having any hesitation about the less expensive dress...don't do it. You have to be 100% positive. Either buy the one you really want or keep looking.

*My mom paid for my dress too. I didn't want her to spend over 3K (even though she would have b/c my mom's the best! )*

I said the same think, 'there is no way i am spending more that 2k for my dress', I went to Kleinfelds and walked out $5000 poorer. I saw the Lazaro and said ok ill just try it on for fun. Hahah fun! yeah right. I fell in love. The dress it self cost $41000 but taxes and alterations came up to $5000. Iam thinking about putting it on EBAY once finished with it. What do you think?

The most important thing when choosing your dress is how do you like it when passing a mirror. You have to love your dress. If you canot oafford the most expensive dress that is ok. You are suppose to shine at your wedding not your dress. It is not the crystals that are important it is the love between the two that are gettning married.

All of the best,
I hope I have helped you.

My dress was $3400 not including alterations. When I started dress shopping I didn't want to spend over 2k but when I tried on my dress there was no turning back!

Re: How much did you pay for your dress?

I had in mind a budget of $2000. I really hated everything I tried on. It wasn't me. I must have tried over 30 dresses. Starting from $600 up to $10,000

I gave up for a while, then on my 2nd wind, found my dress.

The dress fits like it was made for me. I spent over $4000 but need little in alterations. It has 4 layers of gorgeous silk and a very major geometric beading pattern which I think has to be done by a real pro, every mistake would be visible.

I plan on modifying it a little to wear after the wedding as a cocktail dress or black tie gown.

I think it is so well worth it, I have to admit my Aunt help me pay for it, but I think it was worth every penny.

You really have to go with what you love. I think I would be miserable in a dress I was so-so about.

darn, I should have read your post.

Try on similar dresses if you know the look you want.

You can always add cheaper crystals if you just want a little shine.

Just talk to a seamstress about it before you put down deposit. They usually know how to get the most sparkle from the least.

I wont say exactly how much, but my dress was less than $1000. I looked at more expensive dresses, but personally couldnt justify spending more than that for something that would have absolutely no value to DH or I ever again the day after the wedding. I kept thinking about all the other things I could do with that money.

I think if you are truly happy with it, you should get it b/c you may regret getting a cheaper dress that you like but its not the ONE.
