Re: How much did you tip maitre d'?

What exactly does this person do to deserve $400 -$1000 for one nights work?
I would rather see that money spread out over all the people that are busting butt waitering and waitressing... that make minimum wage.
You know the Maitre' D also makes a lot more hourly.

Im so sick of the whole 'tipping' thing. Its out of control.
Everyhwere you turn someone has their hand out and its not for a little gesture, they now ' expect' a certain amount . Its ridiculous.

ITS A TIP!!!!! To insure proper service!!!
Dont get me started with places that build it into the contract or bill.

btw.. sorry for the tagent. I have been in the industry and have worked my butt off to get tips. I am a very generous tipper. But I really dont like the expectations of it these days.
Hell you cant even use a bathroom in NYC without someone wanting a tip. I can dry my own hands thank you!!!!
ARGH!!!

We were told that the maitre d' splits that money equally to the waiters and waitresses that work at your wedding. So, I don't think that they are getting all that money.

Re: How much did you tip maitre d'?

Hmm.. I wonder.
I know when I have had private functions in the ball rooms for Christmas parties, gratuity was included on the bill as well as the cost for bartenders and chefs.
The bartenders had their separate tipping cup on the bar. The waitstaff got tipped out off of the contract.

Ive never even heard of a 'matre'd' at a function.. only our banquet manager .

my maitre'd worked his A$$ off and made everything run smoothly at our reception. he deserved every penny we tipped him.

The MD spearheads the entire function. Not one thing went wrong our night and he was very visable throughout... Everyone noticed him and how hard he worked.

DH gave me a hard time about tipping the MD before the wedding... but after we witness what a spectacular job ours did, he was ready to tip more than *I* planned.

Re: How much did you tip maitre d'?

Thats why I asked ' what does the maitre' d do?

I guess this would be the same as a banquet coordinator?

Ive never heard the term banquet coordinator, but I would assume it's a smiliar job. Unless you mean Banquet Manager, who did nothing but BOOK my RH for me.

The person who is in charge of all the wait staff is usually called a Maitre'D and it's hard to swallow the amount of money you tip them... but once you experience all they do for you... you'll see.

I also worked at a reception hall throughout my college years and understood fully the amount of work the MD does.. so I knew a hefty tip was probably warranted. It ***** to think about with all the money you spend on the wedding in GENERAL, there are still tips to factor in...

but... it is what it is...

Re: How much did you tip maitre d'?

$1300-maitre d (little more then what they recommended)
$150-each bridal attendant (2 total)

These numbers were suggested to us by JT, but my Maitre D was fantastic-if any one is getting married a JT I highly recimmend Linda!
