I know this has been done so, but this would be so helpful to DH and I. What does everyone 'put into savings' after rent or mortgage, flexible spending, food and groceries and utility bills a month? Basically, how much gets socked away for the future per month? Thanks!

I consider myself pretty lucky, since I work for a company that still uses a weekly payroll, so that helps alot..that being said, after i pay my bills, i figure out my weekly allowance and the rest goes into saving, some weeks i can save more than others, since some weeks I need a little more in the allowance than others, the big thing is cut out things you know you don't really need, but still manage to treat yourself to something special, within reason of course so you don't feel deprived, it's very similiar to being on a diet..lol

We put $3K a month. We don't make that much $, the reason we are able to save so much is we have no car payments, no loan payments, no credit card debt, minimal rent. We payed off all this aggressively when we first graduated college so we are able to save most of our money.

Our friend and his wife did the same thing as Julz and they were able to put down half the money on their house about six months before they got married. I wish, DH and I had seperate apartments, then lived together and we can barely save $500 a month...it really stinks!

We put in btween 1000-2000 a month into our savings -- that's a lot considering we have mortgage, bills, school loans, and a car payment. Before we were married and saved for the wedding we put everything we had! It was crazy

That's what we are doing now, but I know we won't be able to save as much once our mortgage goes through and we are paying for that. I'm glad to have saved as much as I have now, because I know how much harder it will be after we move into our condo. FH also has lots of credit card debt but I was able to put down 20% for our condo. Good luck, it really is hard, and I know we will have to change our lifestyle to not go out as much.

The BARE MINIMUM of what we save is 1000 a month, but depending on what my month is like teaching privately, I am able to save more. I love that I get paid only once a month because I am able to pay all of my bills, then the rest goes into savings. It just sucks that we have my car loan, his student loans, my one student loan, credit cards, cell phones, our small amount of rent, another personal loan, etc. It's like I am ALWAYS paying bills ENOUGH! Tell them I moved!

I try to put in a 1000 every month, FH usually can do more than that, his company is more flexible with overtime.

We only give my parents 400 a month, but let me tell you, most of the time, I'd rather be saving a dollar than living here and saving more

Right now we are paying the monthly bills on my parents' home, we are trying to get into a house, so every little thing that we can sock away, we do.

We tried to save at least $1,000/month for awhile, but lately all that savings is being depleted to pay all the wedding bills. So hopefully in a few more months we can start saving again. It's really tight living in NYC since the rent is a lot, and everything you do costs more.
