How much does everyone put into savings? (Poll)

Original post by sept20yay

I know this has been done so, but this would be so helpful to DH and I.
What does everyone 'put into savings' after rent or mortgage, flexible spending, food and groceries and utility bills a month? Basically, how much gets socked away for the future per month? Thanks!

10% of my paycheck goes into savings

I put 500-1000 but right now I am saving for the wedding.

After we are married that extra money will go to pay off student loans then back to savings once they are paid off.

We already have our house with 20% equity so we don't have to worry about that stress at least. Just want to be debt free by the end of next year which means paying of our student loans. (not counting the mortgage)

Make that 12% - I forgot about the paltry amount I put into 401K

I put my whole paycheck into savings every single week. But I only work part time. It stinks but it adds up really fast. My fh also has a side buisness he is starting and all the profits go into there. Then we use his paycheck to pay all the bills. We put away between 800-1000 a month... sometimes more sometimes less. Some months are hard with showers and birthdays and leaving wedding deposits lol

I feel a little better if we count 401k savings - in that case I put away 15% of my check into that. But I won't see that for AGES! (Do we have an old lady icon?)

about 2,000 a month but this money will all be used for the wedding bills.

We put $3K a month.
We don't make that much $, the reason we are able to save so much is we have no car payments, no loan payments, no credit card debt, minimal rent. We payed off all this aggressively when we first graduated college so we are able to save most of our money.

I wish I were in your shoes. Good for you.

When we were saving for the wedding I would say we saved at least 3,000 a month. Now that we are married with a mortgage...it seems more like 600 a month!!!!!!! YIKES

You guys that can save are very lucky. I am lucky if I have enough $ to survive in between paychecks!

this is a very varied poll...everyone makes different salaries.. some people rent, some people spend more money on a mortgage and taxes(which could be an investment the way house prices are going up).....

us currently are living rent free until we find the house so our savings are ALOT higher than they will be once the taxes, mort, utilities begin

I actually figured out our budget today.

Probably $1500 to $2000 a month between us both, if we're really good about it.

wow! i wish we could put down more, however between credit card debt, school loans etc. (not to mention living in DC) sometimes it doesnt feel like it goes far enough!!

We do what we can though and that is what matters :)

Some would say that we are too young to get married...we should be finanically stable etc...well why not do it together?
