I've never been to an e-party and I didn't have one. I'm in a good friend's wedding party (getting married in '09) and her engagement party is coming up. They aren't registered yet and I know she could use (and wants) cash... The party is at a Firehouse and her FMIL is hosting (and doing all the cooking!)
I know everything is relative in terms of what people can and cannot afford, so it's tough to ask for a dollar amount suggestion. Is half of what I would give her as a wedding gift appropriate? (Just as an example, if we were going to give $300 as a wedding gift, we'd give $150 for an e-gift.)
I know it's personal, but if anyone is willing to share the range of gifts they got as e-party gifts, I would appreciate it.
Thanks a lot!
ETA Please note that $150 was merely an illustration / example... I'm not saying $150 is what we'd give. I'm saying we'd give half of what we'd give at the wedding...

I got anywhere from $50 to $350. It was very casual in the parent’s backyard, so that could have been a factor. I think 150 would be perfect!

I would say $100 would be my minimum especially if you are in her Bridal Party.

Re: how much for an e-party gift?
wow.. I could never afford to live and socialize in NY!!
Ive never even been to an egagement party.. I would have NO idea what to give! Probably a gift of something small... I mean come on!
E.party-- $100 -200 bucks Bridal shower- ?? Bach party if you go to that... ?? Wedding gift.. $200-$300...
So you guys are dropping like $500 bucks average for a friends wedding? Yikes!
I would give a picture frame for a gift, something small for bridal shower and like $100 bucks for wedding gift.... tops!
It shouldnt cost me a fortune because a friend is getting married..LOL
Is that a bad attitude? :)

I usually give b/w 100-150. It is very personal. We got b/w 50-1000 and gifts also. If it is a good friend I would give her no less than 100.

I usually end up spending about 1k for my friends weddings, b/w the gift, the dress, bachelorette, showers, e-party's. I does get to be alot. So, I am glad now that it is our turn. But, this does vary from place to place.

i think $200 for an engagement party is a bit much. I would give between $50-$100. Personally, I think it's ridiculous when people use their engagement party as a fundraiser for their wedding.

Wow! You guys are generous! I usually give 150 for family/close friend. Otherwise I give 100. I'm not using my eparty as a fundraiser, I;m using it as a reason to celebrate but I wouldnt mind if people were generous . . . lol

Re: how much for an e-party gift?
I personally didn't have an engagement party for this reason - - and I dont think that a gift should be given for an engagement, especially when most of the same people will be attending your shower, bach. party...wedding, etc. I think it all loses site of what it is. My FH and I decided NOT to have one for that reason!
I don't understand a BIG engagement party - that is what the WEDDING is for.
