To be honest I have officially lost it. Yesterday I get something in the mail from the church that we are going to be getting married in. They told me that it would be $775 with the organist and all that. Then in the mail I get the days for the PreCana. WOW an additional $75 that isn't included in the original price. I swear if It wasn't for my parents I would have gotten married in the reception hall. :(

I agree. My church was so cute anyway. the kind of made me shy, they had a closing mass for precana and during the mass they made an announcement and made us go to the front & presented us with certificates & a present & everyone clapped. I felt like I was back in school. haha. Afterwards we turned to each other & go now we can't drop the church for the RH after that... doh!

It is nice to support the church they need they help for renovations.

Mine is $450 for the Church and we payed $50 for precana. So total $500......

why is everyone's pre- cana so cheap?!! Ours is 195 and we are not doing a retreat or anything! just two days in church

Our church is $400 for everything.

$500 for the church
$100 for the organist
$100 for the singer
...we're not having the organist or the singer because we hired a string quartet. I know the church seems expensive but when you put it into perspective, think about how much the reception is costing you compared to the approximate $1000 for the church where the actual union is taking place.

And I am not sure for music. I think we are hiring the folk group -- so they are another $250 I think. I have to find that out.

We are not allowed to bring in outside music.

$300 - church
$100 - organist (who we didn't even use but had to pay anyway)
$75 - singer (also didn't use)
$50 - precana

$525 TOTAL

$400 plus the $75 for pre cana and a tip for the organist (that's my decision though - I wasn't told to tip him but I will)

and I would pay more than that if I had to because in comparison to what we're spending on the hall that $400 or $800 or even $1k is nothing for what is THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE DAY

and I also have no problem giving it to the church because at least in my parish I KNOW they need the money.

and ditto for me bc its the same church and the condition our rectory in is a disgrace considering we are in an extremely wealthy neighborhood

WOW, I mean, PLEASE do not think this is an attack against ANY of the brides here...just against the churches....this is highway robbery! It's a holy sacrament and shouldn't be this much money!

Pre-Cana was free for us.....and for us it's $400.00 for the donation, singer and organist. I've never heard of more than $500.00!!! It's a sin...

sorry to crash your board, but I HATE these posts...

ANY church would work with you if money was truly an issue.

but ladies, ALL of us on these boards are fortunate to have beautiful weddings, honeymoons, bachelorette parties, etc. etc. people pay up to a $100 PER PERSON or MORE at hall for dinner and drinks, but they can't give the church a donation???? that's insane to me.

The donation, IMO is for grateful receipt of the SAcrament of marriage. A 'thank you' to God for your husband and the love that you have been blessed with. Also, it goes to the church to help them with the many programs they run... the parish school, the food pantry, the staff, the retired priests' care, the utility bills to run the church. CHURCH = COMMUNITY. the community must contribute to help it run and i think it's fair of them to ask the parishoners to contribute, especially if they want to be married there.

i think if people complain about what it 'costs' then get married at the hall. Being married in the Church and what that TRULY means is what is most important.

We were asked to contribute $450. We gave more than was asked and we were on a VERY tight budget and we didnt' even use their musicians, which was part of the set cost. I would have given whatever they asked because it was that important to me. I would have given up a reception and everything else if it meant I could have my Nuptial Mass.. that was the most, special meaningful part of the day.

I think ours is around $450 - $500. That includes an organist and a singer. I'm not sure how much extra pre-cana is.

I DID NOT have to pay a dime to get married using our pastor. We got married outside the church and he drove from say ville to the thatched cottage in Centerport twice. ONce to check it out and the second to marry us!!! Never once did he mention money, its really not the proper ettiquete. We made a massive donation ( there was NOOOO minimum donation ) My experience with out pastor was just wonderful..
