We are in the process of choosing wedding songs to dance to with our parents, etc...
Please be honest and tell me if we are doing too much:
Mother/Groom Dance (two songs back to back; one to mother, one from mother)
Father/Bride Dance
Mother/Bride Dance (she has MS and we are greatful she can still walk, I don't want her to miss this opportunity)
Bride/Future Father in Law Dance (Has no daughter and thought it would be nice)
Groom/Bride Song (our first song and then another one later in the evening from bride to groom)
This seems like a lot; what do you think? Thanks

yes, it sounds like way too much to me. although it will be special for all those involved, I would think your guests would get bored. try cutting some out.....

Re: How much is too much....
Lets assume that song is 3 min. long. six dances * 3 = 18 minuets of dances, which is really a lot. Especially if you consider that much of this will be 'Stand and sway' dancing.
I think you should do 1 mother/son, 1 parents/daughter dance (they can switch half way in the song) and one first dance.

Re: How much is too much....
i love the idea behind all the songs.
what if you had 'shared' songs?
dance w/ each person for a little bit of maybe 2 songs TOTAL.
Less time, but still as meaningful.

Way too long in my opinion... it's a lot to ask some people to sit and stare at all you guys for 20 minutes...
but, i think your reasons for including people are great.... perhaps you could combine songs... or have people share songs???
GOOD LUCK!

Re: How much is too much....
mother /groom- can have one 'official' dance, and then have a dance requested later in the evening- they can announce it possibly...but no one has to leave the dance floor
I think a dance with FFIL is a nice idea too- BUT, I would do it unofficially as well, to save some time...it will still be special and meaningful, but once again guests wont need to clear the dance floor
with too much time taken out, you risk people not even paying attention/leaving/being bored...
I think your ideas are very thoughtful though! You must be a very sweet person..in person

Re: How much is too much....
I agree. i think it would be better to make them 'unofficial' or just announce the dedication rather than taking time out. keep in mind you only get about 30 songs in the reception, so 6 of them is 20% of the reception with these songs.

I agree that may be a little much but if you really want to have all of them perhaps you could stagger them throughout the reception so that each one is meaningful not just a block of dances that everyone watches and only a few of you participate in.

i agree that its a little too much,.....maybe for the dances that you were just considering you can tell your videographer that you were going to do it that way it can be captured and the whole party doesnt have to stop.

1 song groom/Mom 1 song fob/bride 1 song mob/bride
1 song for your first dance & 1 spotlight song..,

Re: How much is too much....
i can see how these dances are important to you, so why dont you ask the dj to fade out each song after about 1.5 to 2 mins? that way you're guests arent watching all of you dance for too long.

Re: How much is too much....
Thats what I thought and thats why I asked you girls. I knew it was too much and I just needed reassurance. As of now we will have:
mother/son father daughter
unofficial: mother/daughter bride/FFIL
Thanks again for all your opinions.

Its your day, and if thats what you want then do it! If you dont do it, you might regret it...if every song/ dance has a significant meaning to you then go for it

Re: How much is too much....
sounds like a lot but you can always start the song w/ just the 2 then after a minute or two have everyone join... i would try to cut it down a little or see if the dj can shorten the songs yoru gonna use..

Re: How much is too much....
We are dancing with our Moms at the same time to the same song. If you did that say with your mothers and your fathers each of you could get a dance but it would be for 2 songs instead of 4. Then you dance B&G for a total of 9 minutes!!!!
