I found a gown over the weekend that I am in love with and can't stop thinking about. It is a Yolanda Couture gown and it's $3500. My FMIL said we can do it if we find nothing else that compares. She is also in love with it too & my sister almost cried. FMIL and I are going shopping again this weekend just to keep our options open. The gown I'm talking about was just absolutely perfect for me, it suited my figure and my personality PERFECTLY! We wanted to keep the gown under $2500. I feel almost sick about spending that kind of money on a dress I'll wear only one day, but my FMIL says she doesn't want me to settle. What do you girls think?
**EDITED** WOW all you girls have been GREAT!
I'm gonna try to post a pic of the gown. I don't like the pic they have on the website because it doesn't show the true beauty of the lace and beading and the back of the dress because the model is sitting down. Also, I would wear it with a sash around the waist which also makes it look even more beautiful!!
I am going to keep looking because I do have some time, but like a lot of you have said, if nothing else compares and I find myself still thinking of this gown I will just go for it. I don't want to look back at my photos and know I settled! Ok, here goes....
THIS DEFINITELY DOES NOT SHOW IT'S REAL BEAUTY! When I put on the gown and saw myself in the mirror as I walked down the hall from my dressing room my little heart lept and I got a huge smile on my face!!
try looking for the gown online somewhere eles cheaper 1st and if not then dont settle. i hate the idea of spending that money on a dress to and it su*ks u only wear it once. you do what u feel is right dont let anyone tell u otherwise! good luck:)
P.S do u have a pic of it? i would love to see it!!

Re: How much is too much??
well if you know that is the gown...you shouldn't settle. personally, my budget was small--but i wound up finding a gown that was a little bit more than i wanted to pay--and i'm glad i went with it.
if you FMIL is okay with it (i assume she must be paying or contributing to it), and doesn't want you to settle....i'd go for it. i mean you know you love it, and every dress you find, you're gonna compare to it and not feel the same!
try on some more--but i bet you will still want the original!

Re: How much is too much??
Thanks gals! And yes, FMIL will be partially funding the gown. I will have to post the pic of it. The dress doesn't come with a sash around the middle, but we tied one around when I had it on and it really made the dress that much more beautiful and perfect! AAAHH!!

From my experience, finding a dress was very difficult. If you found one that you love, you should go for it. Once you know the dress and the designer, you can look online and at other places to get it at a better price. Don't be afraid to negotiate a bit they mark those prices up way higher than they sell.

i say that if you can comfortably afford it, then why not?

Re: How much is too much??
I can't post a pic of it because when I right click on the pic on the website it doesn't give me the option to save it. ? The picture doesn't do it justice anyway! Thanks for your advice girls! I have a feeling I may end up buying this gown... The shop owner already offered us a 15% discount. The dress is actually $4000, and it is $3400 with the discount. But we'll see if we can get her down more.. or if she might be having a trunk show soon or something.

You do only get one wedding, but to me I think it's a lot! I am trying to stay under $2000, and there are PLENTY of dresses in that price range.
I would suggest you keep looking and if that's the one you keep going back to then you should get it if you want.
I know people who've spent $5000 on their dresses. That is way too extreme for me. Remember this is something you'll only wear once! What are you planning to do with it after?

Re: How much is too much??
EVERYTHING you do for the wedding is once (the food, drinks at the hall, the DJ, the flowers), but all you have left is your pictures and rings after all is said and done, so yeah, you only wear it once but it's in your pictures forever!
I say if you love it, go for it! (look at me spending your money! )

Re: How much is too much??
Try RK Bridal, they have a store in NYC and their prices are pretty good. Their alterations were more than any other store I checked out, but the costs were much less.
I think you are taking a good approach, you are open to finding a similar style for a lot less, but if you can't find it, this just might be the one!
You only get one day to wear a dress like this, if you love it more than anything else you've seen....go for it. But definitely wait a little bit and keep looking. Call other stores that carry it.

Re: How much is too much??
Try finding the dress for cheaper elsewhere - I recommend Phyllis at Bridal Elegance (www.gownfind.com).
If you love it, though, get it! Don't settle for something cheaper cause your heart won't be the same over the dress you loved!

I agree, you can get a ton of stuff for your reception like viennese table and seafood bar, etc. with that kind of money. Personally, when I attend weddings I dont even notice the wedding dress, I just notice how good is the food, the music and the venue.
You are a beautiful person and even more so on your wedding day so any dress you have on as long as it's not a potato sack will be flattering. :)

I would say look around a bit more just to reaffirm that this is the dress.....if you find that nothing else compares...then get it!! My friend spent almost 4K b/c she was in love with it. Even though it's only one day, think of all the pictures and the memories you'll have wearing that dress, I'm sure you want it to be perfect. Good luck!

Contact netbride.com for a price quote from them....I got my gown there and saved more then 1/2 what the bridal stores were charging. You may be able to get your dream gown for a lot less $$.

I say splurge on the dress. You can sell it on eBay after the wedding and probably get 50% back.

Re: How much is too much??
Same here-- I beat myself up alot trying to justify spending just around what your dress costs, but i finally gave in!!! I knew that it was THE dress and I had to have it. Sure, I get the occasional guilt, but it will be worth it. Good luck deciding, but remember to do what makes you happy!!!!
