Re: How much is your church offering?
Question for everyone:
Is your price including the donation or is that without a donation? i know donation is typically between $400-600 alone so seeing prices of JUST 600-700 im guessing its without the donation

I thought you had to give a donation when you get married in a catholic church? thats what i always heard, i honestly thought the donation alone would be what my total cost is.
ALSO im with tilde on this, out of all wedding expenses im not gonna complain about this...we spend ridiculous amounts on so many things and dont bat an eye well maybe but still itll be fine. Out of all things this is one of the least expensive and meanwhile its for the church and the actual place where you are married so not a big deal. Ppl will spend that much on a dress, veil, accessories, place cards or whatever and not worry but for the church everyone is like

Re: How much is your church offering?
Well i was shocked for a different reason - the church i am getting married in is the same one i got married the first time - and in ten years they still only ask for $600. Since this is the place you are actually 'getting married' i think its a small price to pay. If you think about all the expenses of owning a house - then seeing as how big a church is and how those expenses are so much higher - the only way for a church to stay open is if people are generous enough to contribute the money it needs to pay its bills.
Sorry - dont mean to preach but i just dont get why people have a problem with the church fee.

Re: How much is your church offering?
We just have to become members of the church and pay that fee , which i believe is 500 a family.
Does not include donation

i think ppl are about the church 'fees' because of the nature of the institution, unlike a business/vendor where you expect high prices going in, afterall, there are poor, very spiritual individuals out there so these high prices sometimes can't be justified, also bearing in mind the RCC is the second wealthiest institution in the world & according to scripture they exist to service their community

im not even catholic and you know my feelings about all of this lol. But the fee doesnt go just towards the church, one is the organist and im guessing she isnt getting a kick back from the RCC. Also although the RCC is wealthy i dont know how much they give to each church, many churches do close bc of funding...so basically churches are there to service the community but without money they cant do this. Basically from what i know churches are responsible for their own funding, so i dont know what the RCC does with all their money...thats why when churches are out of money and about to close they have fundraisers and stuff instead of being able to get it from the RCC.
WOW did i just defend the church lol AND lets not forget that these companies we give all this money too these are individuals who are personally living pretty comfortably and their money doesnt go back into servicing the community but instead you just paid for their next big trip, new feature on their benz, new watch

it's not for profit org, all the churches are in their 'operations' budgets, if not they could not exist as a not for profit...you are right though, they do close churches that don't generate the expected $, which is reason number 3, I disagree with the instituition...remember I have issues with the institution, none with the religion, lol

yeah but not for profit doesnt mean you dont make money, it means that you are in the business of at the end of the year not making a big profit, this is why profit businesses cut costs and things to achieve this...non for profit all their money gets allocated back into the company and whatever they make goes to either employees, back into the business or whatever it is, the employees at a non profit business still get paid and rent gets paid and all other costs. The church their money simply goes into the community and the church itself...if it wasn't for donations which i dont even think they can survive on just donations alone but they wouldn't be able to stay open...In order to stay open they have to charge these things, so if it werent for church fees to get married, then there wouldn't be churches to get married in.
I have issues with organized religion but from a business standpoint its understandable and unfortunately for a church to survive they have to have a business mentality

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!! and yes i know but i wrote it for everyone to see and maybe understand why a non-profit org is trying to make money, i see alot of times ppl misunderstand what this means...BUt yeah exactly lol you know all about having to raise the money and getting funds from elsewhere to do so, the church is the same way, they need the money to stay open

Re: How much is your church offering?
What I don't understand if its suppose to be an offering or donation shouldn't it be up to your discretion how much you want to give? The priest should say the fee for marriage is $$$, most churches say the donation or offereing is $$$. On another note since we are donating or giving an offering in the terms of the church, can we get a tax receipt? Technically we are donating right?

i think you can get a tax receipt or at least claim this on your taxes, should be able to.
I agree, im actually finding it funny how im sticking up for the church bc for one im not even catholic and i have ALOT of problems with organized religion but when it comes down to it in order for a church to stay open they need the money and this will come from church fees and donations. Telling us how much we HAVE to give then yeah thats different, but i guess its bc most ppl wouldnt give alot im guessing not sure.
I have problems with other things rather than the fee, like the fact that I HAVE to sign a paper saying I will baptise my kids catholic, this is really bothering me, the reason i have to do it is bc im not catholic...but who is to say my kids HAVE to be, its just the whole concept that im being told what my kids HAVE to be
