FH and I went through the same exact thing - however, I'm Catholic and he's not. When we spoke to the Deacon about it - he was like 'I know that things change, and I know nothing is definite. No one is going to come yelling at you if you change your mind down the road, but we ask you to promise that you have the intention of bringing up your children Catholic'
I took this as. . they know that nothing is set in stone, but the diocese wants to hear that you have good intentions. I signed it, and we aren't sure what we are doing yet, but chances are they will brought up Methodist. FH wasn't happy about the signing thing either. . . .
yeah i know its not set in stone, the point was just the whole thing of it having to be catholic, its the whole principle...however, i havent been asked to sign any papers, and pre-cana went well and again they said it doesnt matter which religion we pick to raise our kids but as long as they practice something
I agree. Its just the politics of the church. That is part of the reason I don't mind raising my kids Methodist
well im glad i havent been asked to sign anything and during pre-cana they said it doesnt matter

Espo: Your FH will have to sign the paper not you. And it is only required to have a full mass (which you are having right?)
As for the donation on top of the fee -- the fee is your donation or as they like to call it 'offering.'
Our is $650 but will be probably go up before we get married. That does not inlcude tips or additional music.
I'm only doing a ceremony and was asked to sign it.

Really.
See this is what gets me -- not the money or even the different amounts (different areas are more or less affulent then others) but why the rules are different. We were told if we wanted a mass I would have to sign (FH is not catholic YET) and if we wanted a cermony it didnt' matter.
I don't get it.

$750!!! But $200 of that is for the musicians, and since I sing there I dont have to pay, considering they're all invited to my wedding!

That is weird. He told me that I had to sign it. He was sending it in to the diocese along with FH's bapitsmal certificate to get 'approval' for us to get married in the church. I would have rather not signed it, that kind of irks me.

That is really weird. I don't blame you if I wasn't catholic I wouldn't want to have to sign it either. For us it didn't really matter since FH is converting and we knew we ould raise our children catholic but still weird that all the rules seem to be different.
