Wow.... $50,000.....Mmm we are waaaaaay under that. We don't want to be in debt forever, especially since I have school loans and we would like to buy a house within the next century. I would first make a list of your top 5 wedding priorities. ie: venue (outside or in and what type of ambience), dress (what kind of dress and what you'd be willing to spend), number of geusts, etc.

To us, my dress , photography and the venue were what was most important so we started with that and then formed our overall budget which is about $15,000. We used the book BRIDAL BARGAINS (you can pick it up at barnes and Noble ro Amazon for like 14 bucks) was FANTASTIC! Really tells you how to save on everything from flowers (online and wholesale places) to dresses and what designers are not worth the price tag. I reccomend it to all brides in the planning process.

That book is full of really great tips! I would definitely reccomend it as well. I too am hoping to keep my wedding under 20k. And I am definitely hopeful that it is possible to have a simple yet elegant wedding at which everyone has a great time without breaking the bank.

You know the funny thing is that until I read this post I never thought to count up the total price of our wedding.
My father and inlaws were great and helped us out by paying for a huge chunk of it and then whatever money my DH and I were able to save we used.
Our wedding cost slightly over 50K, and after the whole thing was said and done, we had less than $500 dollars of wedding debt. We have enough debt between my student loans, our morgage, car payments/insurance, etc, we didn't need an enormous wedding expense. If we had not received the help from FOB MIL and FIL, we would have had to cut costs SIGNIFICANTLY!!!

same here. ours is prob about $60k including the honeymoon but we were blessed so far to have had to spend a penny. my mom and inlaws have really blessed us.

Originally we set the budget at $20K, when all is said and done it will probably be closer to $25K. It really does spiral out of control!

This is why we decided to cancel our Rh and have a Destination Wedding instead. There was no way we would have been able to afford all of it and I was sick to my stomach every time I thought about it. I am happy with our decision. Maybe in 10-20 years we will renew and have an all out bash!

We're trying to keep it at $30,000 but we are inviting 230 people so it's really hard.

okay

We're also way, way under 50k. The trick is to pick out one splurge and keep that in mind as you move forward.

Everyone coming to your wedding is not coming to it to be blown away by your place cards. They're coming to your wedding because they love you and they want to see you get married. Seriously that's it in a nutshell. That's all they want.

If you have 50k to spend, all the more power to you, if you don't you may have to do some more legwork, compromise more.

The best wedding I ever went to was held at a farm belonging to friends of the bride and groom. The cake was made by a friend, they brought their own alcohol, catered it with a bar-b-que buffet, and hired a local bluegrass band. Everyone loved it. Total Cost = @15k.

Our biggest expense was the hall. We didnt realize places cost so much. But honestly, we are way under what could have been spent because we are doing our own CPs, the Bm's bo-ks and our invites and STDs. My mom and dad covered my dress and veil and our honeymoon. His parents covered 2/3 of the reception hall. So that all helped soo much. They all chipped in at the last moment and have given us SOOOO much stuff for the house! We dont have to buy ANYTHINg except decorative house accents-all our cookware we are set with.

we are definitely looking at 50,000 plus. thats why we made it over 2 years away bc we really cant afford it right now. just our rh is 30,000. plus my dress was 4,000. the e-party is another 4. plus we want a band, which is about another 7 or 8,000. photographer, church, etc.....its ridiculous!!!
and im only a first year school teacher, i barely make 40,000 adn my fh is going into the city police acadamy, which they only make like 20 something.

We are around the 20K range but we are getting married on a sunday day, inviting less than 200 (sounds like alot still), i got my wedding dress from ebay, did alot of research online and on this site esp...

we're not the most organized couple but when something sounded like it would blow our budget out of the water we either asked mom & dad to pay for it (hahaha) or seriously, went with a quality but cheaper vendor. Also, allocate your $$$ depending on what vendors are more important to you. Also, DIY.

Dont forget, rely on these brides (esp in the reviews section), I did and still am! They have great advice!

Good Luck!

that's about how much ours is costing. thank god my family is paying. we'd be in debt forever if they weren't. I think that's the average price. my cousin paid about that for his last december.

Well come out between $15,000-$20,000 including honeymoon...which when I think about it is quite a bit since were having less than 50 guests
