How much is your wedding COSTING?

Original post by robynci1

Is anyone else spending over $50,000 for their wedding? How are we going to save this much money? Is anyone else in a panic? Need support....

You absolutely don't need to spend $50,000 on a wedding around here - and you shouldn't if you can't afford to. Like others have said, it's an important day, but it's not the only one. You have to prepare not only for the wedding day, but also for the marriage. Getting yourself into major debt is NOT preparing yourself adequately for your marriage!

My definition of 'afford' is also different from other people's definitions, I'd bet... Afford to me means paying cash, having $0 wedding debt when it's over, and having a significant sum in savings (which varies in amount depending on your lifestyle and income) when the wedding is over... It also means not 'counting' on those envelopes at the wedding either.

Some people can afford to spend $50,000 on a wedding. Some can afford a lot more, some a lot less... it doesn't matter. It will be a beautiful, important day in your lives whether you spend $100 to get married at city hall of $100,000 on a luxury wedding... It's about the marriage, not the wedding. The wedding's just a bonus.

We initally had a $30,000 budget, but after booking the hall and vendors it is aroun $40,000. We never realized how expensive things can be and how quickly they add up. To say this is w.out the our Honeymoon $$$. We are saving b/c we are paying for this ourselves and will have a majority of the $ by then, but will need to get 2nd jobs for a few months to finish the rest of it. But it's our wedding and we want it to be the way we want....and you only get married once!
