Is anyone else spending over $50,000 for their wedding? How are we going to save this much money? Is anyone else in a panic? Need support....

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
For the wedding including honeymoon, we are under $50,000.
What we did was set a budget for the hall (the per person cost) and for the major vendors. We have been pretty good about keeping within those numbers. We went over on the hall, but LOVE it so it was worth it, and on photography, but worked on going under on other things.
We are spending more than we thought overall because we had no idea how much all the little things add up to! Also, we budgeted a certain amount for the honeymoon and splurged a little so we went over on that. However, we included meals in our honeymoon package, so we'll need less spending money, so overall we are only a little over than our original total honeymoon estimate.

Everyone's budget is different. Whatever you do, do not go into debt for the wedding. Although your wedding day can very well be the most important day of your life, it isn't the only day.
EXACTLY!
ETA - Except I don't think of my wedding as the most important day of my life (though for many of us it's probably the most important day so far in our lives)... I think the marriage that comes after it is SO much more important. There is an Irish wedding toast that says, 'May today be the worst day of the rest of your lives.'
My goal was 20k I think I might hit 30k, but that is as high as I want to go. I'm praying we can save it all, we have a good plan I just hope it works.

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
I think the 3 major factors of wedding (that can easily double or triple costs) are:
guest #
when it is (season / day of week / time of day)
the sum of 'upgrade' costs: letterpress invitations + plasma TV and lights with DJ or band + several large limos instead of none or one + 3k gown instead of 1k + added catering optionss (ultra premium bar, viennese dessert, cappucino bar) + orchids instead of roses.... you get the point
It's easiest to economize in areas 2 and 3... but all these things are decisions about what's important to you. Obviously big families = big guest #'s so that area doesn't have as much play in it.... but still can be worked on somewhat...

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
All I've booked so far is my reception hall, and the price tag is already at around $34,000. God knows what the whole thing will cost!!! However, my parents are the ones paying, and that's why FH and I are having the wedding that we are. If we were paying, we agreed that we would just run off to an island somewhere and only invite our closest friends and family members. It's all a matter of what's important to you and FH.
I agree with all the women who've written that it's just one day. The important thing is that you're marrying the love of your life! (Did I mention how much I love my parents and how eternally grateful I am to them???)

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
I completely agree with what most people have said. There are some brides who can go all out and spend a ton but that's not true of everyone. You can have a really nice wedding for under 20K. Don't feel like you have to spend $50k. It truly is about priorities. Set a budget and shave off of it to allow for extras. You don't have to do everything that someone else did.

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
I found a site a while back that said the average wedding in this area is $37,800 or something like that. I couldnt imagine spending that much!!! I am having enough trouble making my payments to the hall every 2 months!!

Same with us. FH and I are paying for this on our own and we refuse to go into debt so we're doing this with all cash....hopefully. I guess I can give up a few purses and my summer shoe wardrobe...LOL!

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
You know the funny thing is that until I read this post I never thought to count up the total price of our wedding. My father and inlaws were great and helped us out by paying for a huge chunk of it and then whatever money my DH and I were able to save we used. Our wedding cost slightly over 50K, and after the whole thing was said and done, we had less than $500 dollars of wedding debt. We have enough debt between my student loans, our morgage, car payments/insurance, etc, we didn't need an enormous wedding expense. If we had not received the help from FOB MIL and FIL, we would have had to cut costs SIGNIFICANTLY!!!
