set a budget you can afford and stick with it. you will find many tips on here on how to keep your budget down. you definitely do not have to spend $50,000 plus to have a beautiful wedding. but the bigger the guest list the more $$$ you will spend. day/night of the week counts for a lot too. do some searching and you will find all the help you need don't panic just yet! this is supposed to be fun, not super stressful! good luck!

Wow.... $50,000.....Mmm we are waaaaaay under that. We don't want to be in debt forever, especially since I have school loans and we would like to buy a house within the next century. I would first make a list of your top 5 wedding priorities. ie: venue (outside or in and what type of ambience), dress (what kind of dress and what you'd be willing to spend), number of geusts, etc.
To us, my dress , photography and the venue were what was most important so we started with that and then formed our overall budget which is about $15,000. We used the book BRIDAL BARGAINS (you can pick it up at barnes and Noble ro Amazon for like 14 bucks) was FANTASTIC! Really tells you how to save on everything from flowers (online and wholesale places) to dresses and what designers are not worth the price tag. I reccomend it to all brides in the planning process.

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
I don't think you are alone. In fact, I was told that the average Long Island wedding is between 50-75K these days.
Mine is under 50- but mainly because I do NOT have a lot of people coming. We will have under 100 guests when all is said and done. I also found ways to cut things down in areas that I didn't feel were as important.
Don't worry - you are definitely not alone. If you are really worried about money though, you should consider cutting corners on some of the items that might be a little bit on the bad budget side. Talk to your vendors and tell them that you are on a budget - a good vendor can find a way to be really creative within the price ranges you set!.
Good luck!

I hate to say it but I think $50k is 'average' in NY.

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
If you put in the cost of EVERYTHING - including our honeymoon, we're in the $50,000 range.
HOWEVER, we wouldn't be if we couldn't afford it. And, I'm not trying to brag at all - I'm just trying to say, BE SMART and REALISTIC about how much you can afford. There is absolutely NO reason to go into debt and start off married life in debt due to your wedding. Between contributions from our parents and our own savings, our wedding (honeymoon included) was basically paid for about 2 months after we got engaged, and we're in a situation where we paid off all of our debt except student loans, bought a brand new car, and could buy a house right after the wedding. In short, we're not the norm by any stretch, but we planned out what we could afford, what we could save, etc. and planned from there. You need to know not only your overall budget, but the breakdown of how much to spend on each portion of the wedding / each vendor. If we were struggling to save enough for it, or if we would be left with no cash after paying for the wedding, we'd have cut way, way, way, back and had a much less expensive wedding... that would wind up being just as special and elegant!
We never intended to spend this much money, but it wound up happening. Plan to spend LESS than you can afford and you're bound to ultimately stay within the bounds of what you can afford. Expenses come up that you don't anticipate and some things cost way more than you anticipate.
Seriously, while it's a great day in your lives and you only do it once, it's still ONE DAY. Don't let that one day set you up to start our your marriage in debt. Finances are the #1 thing couples fight about, so start off your marriage in as healthy a financial state as you can. There's absolutely no need to spend $50k on a wedding if you cannot afford it!

We're under $20K. Including the dress. And we love all our vendors. DIY BABY! We're making the save the dates and invites, making the favors, making the programs and favor cards and card box and BM jewelry and wedding albums and centerpieces and probably a CD of music that we're using, even if Steve says he already has it.

Everyone's budget is different. Whatever you do, do not go into debt for the wedding. Although your wedding day can very well be the most important day of your life, it isn't the only day.
I tackled vendors one by one and decided what I thought was worth it or not. I thought I'd definitely get a high end designer dress and had allocated a very large wedding dress budget but came in WAY under. At the same time, I wasn't even planning to get a videographer but ended up getting a pretty high end pricey videographer.
Everything is an opportunity cost. We were originally going to buy a house after the wedding but ended up buying a house before the wedding. Now I'm more frugal with the last details of the wedding.

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
depends on what is important to you we are fig. with the honeymoon 20k or slightly under.
You don't have to invite the world to your wedding, you don't need tons of flowers, you don't need a expensive dress (i am realizing some dresses that i thought were $$$$ i found elsewhere cheaper just slightly diff), if your flexi with your date you save A LOT, etc.
So things can be made cheaper and still be a nice wedding.

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
I think that I would like to keep it at the 20,000 mark. Honestly, I had the fairytale sweet 16 with a court, dance lessons, limos, etc.. (far more than i want my wedding to cost). it was an amazing night but in the end so not worth the cost of a small benz. i'd rather start off with no wedding debt. we hve come to terms with the fact that we will be financially tight for the first 5 yrs but i dont wnat to add to the burden for 5 hrs of your life.

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
My wedding is going to cost about 17-20K. We are keeping it this low by keeping our guest list down. I want a small, intimate, romantic wedding. I probably could have kept costs down, but I wanted a lot of flowers, a good photographer etc.

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
My fh told me to do and pick whatever I ever wanted for our wedding...He wants me to have the wedding of my dreams. I on the other hand....want a house and A my dream wedding. So im being good and I kept our wedding at the 15k about 18k with the honeymoon. I am so excited and even happier knowing that I dont have to go crazy spending alot of money for our wedding. That includes 130 people at a beautiful location, favors, dress, limo,dj, video, photo, church and night before hotel!! oh and centerpieces!!
We are paying for everything ourselves!!!!

Re: How much is your wedding COSTING?
With the honeymoon, we will be around $50K. However, we allocated $10K for the honeymoon and I am so glad we did! You def. don't want to skimp on your honeymoon and don't underestimate the cost of going away for 2-3 weeks and staying at nice places.
The bulk of your budget will be how much you are paying per person at the hall. Second, will be how many people you choose to invite. You don't want to skimp on the other vendors, particularly photography.
