did you already have saved before you booked the first vendors?

our expenses are very well split up.

my parents are paying for the RH, dress & accessories & the shower. (they had the entire cost of the RH saved)

FMIL is paying for the RD & the flowers. she did not say that we have a specific budget. so she will probably save as we find out the cost.

FH bought my e-ring (obviously) he had been saving up for that, he will also buy my wedding band, pay for the church & pay for the entire honeymoon. (he has all these expenses saved in the bank)

I am paying for the band, photo/video, invites, & favors. I had money saved that covered the band & photo/video deposits. For the balances I am counting every penny up until the day of the wedding. very stressful

my brother & SIL will be paying for the limos & they have that money put aside for us.

We were going to save for the deposit of the RH but we ended up getting some money from my parents otherwise we'd have to save for that. Now we're just saving for the other vendors.

Before we booked our hall we had about twice as much as the deposit saved... we booked our DJ & Video in the past month and we currently have about 20% saved sooo around there

I think the most important thing is to make sure you book vendors with prices you know you can handle. Book things that you KNOW you can realistically have money for and be able to pay them off in the end. I hear a lot of girls who booked places like the reception location and stuff like that... and later realized they couldn't afford it and had to cancel. you don't want to have to go through that... I'm sure it's a HUGE disapointing set back AND you probably stand to potentially lose some money.

BTDT, was not fun. it wasn't that we booked so far out of our means, but that our means totally changed.

We did it opposite.

We booked the place/vendors and just paid what the vendor said it was going to be. We wanted certain vendors and just paid for them.

by the time we got engaged I had saved for a 1/3 of the wedding. due to some unexpected expenses we ended up having money to cover all the vendor deposits only.
the RH my parents are paying mostly for, and the rest of the balances we are saving as we go along.

I did make a strict budget. I listed every single thing we would need and set a certain budget for that particular thing. I didnt know about some of the little extra things that are needed, so that made us go over by like 2K, which I also budgeted for.

as another poster said, make a strict budget and adhere to it, and be realistic about what u can afford. also, any little expense, be it a stamp or a glitter for a shower invite, put into ur budget. this helps control spending and not get over ur head.

If I remember correctly, we had nothing but the $400 deposit ready for the RH.

We are still booking vendors..but we have enough saved to cover all major vendor deposits. Thankfully we have a lot of time to save for the rest...

We had and still have enough saved to pay for our entire wedding, a few times over...it's just a matter of choosing to spend the money we have on a wedding or a house. We want the house lol, so we're being very frugal with the wedding, even though we definitely could spend more on it.

But i'm tring not to go into savings. All deposits were paid from current income and some payments too.

ZERO!!!!!!!!!! to start, but we paid everyone already except the video. He let us give him only 25% now nad 75% when the DVD's are ready (3 monty after the wedding)

Zero!!! We're working with vendors that have been good enough to work with us and allow very generous payment plans. So far we haven't booked any vendor until we saved for the deposit. We plan to book all the major vendors like this (hopefully b4 the end of the year) and then we're going to take time to go into saving overtime. We're also int he process of moving into an apt/house together so our savings in split between the 2 costs

We def have cut corners and made sacrifices. FH does alot of overtime at work and works 2x as hard to increase his monthly comission. Tax returns will also come in very handy. We may have an engagement party for some gifts but we're basically footing the entire wedding bill so far.

hmm lets see...we had $900 in our account when we booked the hall and they needed $1000 so we wiped that right out. that was 1 month after we got engaged. then we started booking vendors after our e-party with the money we had gotten...that was about 3 months after we got engaged
