What are your bridesmaids paying for their dresses (please include the estimated cost for alterations) ? I'm trying not to take advantage but I really love this dress!

Re: How much should a bridesmaid dress cost?
The dress I chose is $300 but since I have 9 girls I was able to negotiate it down to $225 no tax, alterations are capped at $50if they use them, but I don't care if the girls use there own tailor.
I think the dress is worth every penny, it’s a charmeuse material and really gorgeous.

Mine were I think 129 or something and there was a $65 alteration cap. I got them from RK Bridal. the dress was$112, but we had them measure and do the alterations. I think most of the girls ended up paying about $200 for the dress.

Wow, I thought $170 was expensive for a possible BM dress I was going to pick.
My girls would flip if the price went way over $200 with alterations. So I am trying to keep it pretty cheap. I guess it all depends on what the girls are willing to pay.

Re: How much should a bridesmaid dress cost?
How much would I spend on a dress for a formal night out for myself? I would honestly say no more than $200 TOPS! I used that as a gauge.

Re: How much should a bridesmaid dress cost?
Ours are $185 with a $75 alterations cap, but each girl may get alterations done on their own for less money.
It's still more than I wanted them to spend which is why my mother is paying for the entire shower!!

My dresses were $225 with a $55 dollar alteration cap. The girls are not allowed to say they will wear it again, b/c you know they never will.

Depends on your friends/family (BMs) and their finances. - I had a group w/ a mix of girls, some VERY well off, some not so much - Personally, I think if it's something I can wear again, i'll pay for good quality.

What about quality that you probably won't wear again?

The way I see it, if you agree to be a bridesmaid, you agree to the cost. You should know the bride well enough to know what she will be expecting of you - and if you accept, you do what the bride asks. Would I be happy about spending $350 on a dress that I would never in a million years wear again ? No. - Would I keep my mouth shut, put down my VISA and do it for my friend? Yes.

those of you have gotten the dresses for under 200 where didi you find them??
I got mine for $139. All the girls are from OOT, so they are going to their own seamstress. They originally retailed near $250, but I found them on houseofbrides.com at the good price. The dresses just came in last week and I couldn't be any happier!!!

Re: How much should a bridesmaid dress cost?
I would be embarrassed to ask any of my girls to pay over $150 for a dress, even though they all told me not to be concerned about it. With so many dresses out there to choose from, I just don't see why there is a reason to choose such expensive dresses. BM's spend enough money as it is between the e-party, shower, bachelorette party, & wedding gift, without tacking on the dress, alterations, the shoes........

Re: How much should a bridesmaid dress cost?
Wonderful News! I went ahead and put on my Master-Of-The-Obvious Hat and asked the girls what they were willing/expecting to spend. They were all planning for $300. When I told them the dresses would be custom, include alterations, and run between $200-230 they were thrilled. I love my girls!

I agree. I tried to find dresses that were under $200 and ended up with ones that cost $160 plus alterations (each girl had their own done). BM's shell out enough $ to be in the wedding, there's no reason why they should have to get something expensive that they're only going to wear once. Unless they don't mind how much they spend of course and then i say go for it. Honestly no one ever wears a bridesmaid dress again unless its a short cocktail black dress.
