I am so clueless on how to pick a DJ.

It can vary from $800 for a no frills, DJ only package up to (or possibly more) $3,500 for the works. It depends on what you want.

we met w/ DJ's whose prices ranged from $800 to $1900

Depends, but my DJ/MC package is around $2300

My DJ (2 people) for ceremony, CH, and reception, with no fancy extras is $1200.

It depends on the package you choose. I haven't seen a DJ charge more than $2500-3000.

ours is 1600.

i think it depends on what you want/need and can afford. can a 500 dj do a good job, yes, but a 1200 dj might be better/more experienced. my guess would be that most/most popular are in the 1000-2000 range.

It really depends on what you want. We are paying about $2,900 for a DJ, MC, givaways (glo necklaces, hats and maracas), lights and a percussionist.

Our DJ cost $1200 (that was for MC, DJ, lights, bubble machine & costumes that our guests were able to wear doing the playing of certain songs).

i called a few the other day for a friend....

i was told 1200-1400 for DJ and MC
lights was 450-1200
and they wanted photomontage and that was 500-1200

I'd say it depends...

We paid $3600 which included a light show, photo montage and plasma screens. They also attended my ceremony to shoot some video which they replayed at my reception. We were also given a copy of it and a CD with the music we picked to have them play at my reception.

It totally is up to you. I got all the added live elements and the singer and the jazz trio for CH and the lights. If you add on the mega light show and the plasmas and all of that, we got estimates for up to $5,000. But, to be more basic, it can go for under $2,000

Our was nearly $1000 for Dj and MC. No giveaways or light show. We wanted to be the only show.

as the others said--just depends on what you want and the DJ....our pkge is ceremony, CH, reception, DJ, MC, light show, and percussionist and we're paying upwards of $2500

Most of the dj's i met with ran between 1200 - 2000 for what i wanted, giveaways, lights, etc... but I ended up going with the dj from my e-party and got his $1550 package for $900.

Don't be afraid to negotiate.

yup - 4 hours reception music...that's all we needed!
