I know i did things a little backwards & booked the RH before the church.I have an 1 1/2 hr cocktail hour that starts at 7:00 PM. I have an appointment this Saturday with the Church. I think i can pick anytime between 1:00 - 4:00 PM. So what time should i chose for the church (catholic)? The RH is about 20 minutes from the church. I was thinking 3:00 ? So if we can get to the RH by 5:00. that allows 2 hours for pictures.. Maybe we can enjoy a little bit of the CH.
Also, for brides getting married in Catholic Church. What can i expect during the 1st meeting with the priest? I'm freaking a little bit because my FH has to work 12 hr days until further notice. Hoping this doesn't affect our appointment on Saturday. I already had to re-schedule because of his job. This is due because of the storm this past week... Hope his shift by Saturday

Re: how much time to allow between Church & RH?
I have the same issue. But i figure with travel time things will work out. My Church and all is about 30 minutes apart. We will do a recieving line and take pics so that should give us plenty of time. I booked my hall first also. Ceremony is at 4 and recept. is at 7

I feel like I have no time between. The church should end around 4:30. That only gives us an hour for receiving line and pics.

you know what your freaking me out lol bc my cockatil hour is also 1 1/2 hours and it starts at 7 i booked the chuch (catholic) at 2pm. i spoke to my priest and he said being that i am having the mass it is about an hour long then ppl will mingle congratulate you blah blah he said that way with traffic you will have plenty of time and wont rush. dont forger most churches have 5:00 mass on sat night so just in case for whatever reason things get held up u don't want to be rushed. some ppl think it is too much time in between but im happy with it, smooth sailing and enjoy the cocktail hour. now let me guess your FH is in sanitation and with the snow his shifts are nuts? lol we have all too much in common if this is the case! i actually had to cancel a photo appt for tomorrow. and priest wont ask much just when is your reception, what time would u like, what priest etc.. my priest is a family friend so it was verry informal.

Re: how much time to allow between Church & RH?
i am not too concerned about having too muuch time in between.. the locals can go home and hang out. & the others can go hang out at the bar at the RH. i just would like to get as many pics out of the way so we can enjoy the reception
Funny! no, my FH works for Con Ed.. Seems like the salt causes alot of cable/feeder problems, do you believe me and my FMIL have been doing all the planning so far cos he works week nights when most vendors are available. I understand & luckily i have a great FMIL. My parents would help more but right now they have some health issues They will be ok though..
I guess if he works Sat. i will have to go without him. I purposely didn't plan a summer wedding because its his busy time of year... remember the astoria blackout?!! boy did i hear horror stories about workers getting time off

My ceremony is at 5 and my cocktail hour starts at 8. You may want to do a ceremony instead of a mass to save a little time. Just communicate with your photographer that you want things done in a timely fashion.
As for the first meeting with the priest, it's easy. You will go over how you met, and simple questions like why do you want to get married. It should be a relatively brief visit.
