How much to charge???
I am trying to start selling murchandise that I am designing and making...For a custom made wreath, using a grapevine wreath base and any colors that you would ask for in flowers and ribbon; what is the MOST you would pay?
I don't want to rip people off...but I don't want to jip myself of all the hard work either!
The wreath would be the perfect size to hang on your door.

Re: How much to charge???
What is the cost for you to make it? the reason i ask is because when I was making crafts that i could sell, I would take my cost of the item and double it. That is what I would sell the product for.

Re: How much to charge???
the thing is..that technique doesn't always work. It can cost me $6 to make some wreaths..but it might take 2 hours of my time to assemble it artistically...my mother suggested at least $10 an hour for labor.
That is why this kinda thing is hairy in priceing. I've seen things that are, in my humble opinion..not NEARLY as nice as what I have made for $45 and they have barely anything on them! I figure if i sell something really nice at a more reasonable cost, I can sell more!

Re: How much to charge???
I would check around the marketplace to see what the going rate is for similar things. I've been shocked at the prices they charge at Michael's for the finished silk flower arrangements.Check out craft fairs, shops, on-line, etc. I think you'll find that the venue in which you're selling will make a difference too. Home sales and friends may expect a bargain - $10 - $20 whereas in a store the same people might pay $30 - $50.

Re: How much to charge???
it depends on where you sell. My mom and aunt did craft festivals and shows for years and never made much out of it. They would sell wreaths for about $25( but that was 10 yrs ago)...Also places like Michaels sell them too and they are in the $40-$50 range and since its a carft store..they dont sell either. The issue may not be how much but WHERE to sell them...find a good selling spot/place/idea and you can afford to charge enough to make a good profit.

Re: How much to charge???
Thank you all so much for the input!I'm a total newbie at the whole business end of this. I've been making them as gifts and only just started pricing things for sale. The work and thought that I put into a custom broom for a friend made it a good wedding gift, and I would expect to sell that item for $45-50 considering it's custom design for the customer.
I guess i'll just keep asking questions!

Re: How much to charge???
Can we see some pics??
I think the price will depend on the size of the wreath/broom as well. I know that artificial flowers can be very expensive and it's hard to find th right arrangement so it's a great little niche to be in.
