How much would you girls think is acceptable to give at a wedding for a couple? Would it make a difference if you are a bridesmaid..or if it is a friday night vs saturday night wedding? HELP!

Re: How much to give at weddings
it really depends on so many factors so that's hard to answer. These are based on a couple going to the wedding:
This is what I generally follow for myself. I don't know how it ranks on the generosity scale, but I'd be happy with ANY of these gifts:
If it is a close friend or family/you and FH are in bridal party - $500 If it is a close friend / not in BP or family not in BP - $300 If it is just a friend, no one too special - $250 If it is an acquaintance and you're wondering why you were invited - $200 If you don't go to the wedding - $50-200 depending on how close you are to the person If you have to travel to get there (hotels, airfare, etc.) and it is a close friend - $200-250 If you have to travel to get there (hotels, airfare, etc.) and it is a family member - $250-300 Bridal shower gift - close friend/family - $100++ Bridal shower gift - friend/acquaintance - $50-75 E-party gift - I usually give around $100 if it is at a restaurant or something and $50 if it is a backyard deal.
HTH!

Re: How much to give at weddings
Whoa! We're going to a wedding this Sat and FH only wants to give $100. He barely knows her but she and I go way back. Things are tight tho I have been to 2 weddings since I became engaged to FH and will go to 2 more before we're married. Its gettng really expensive.!!
ETA: Give as much as u can without breaking the bank. I'm not going over $200 for this wedding. .. That is more than what I expect from them at mine.

Re: How much to give at weddings
that's what is so confusing because as part of the bridal party i have spent hundreds of dollars (700-800) so far on other expenses such as bach party..dress..gifts..hair..etc. I am not sure if I am supposed to give more at the wedding because I am a bm..rather than what I can afford...ahh help!

Re: How much to give at weddings
Maybe u can ask the other BMs what they're doing Since they are probably having the same thoughts. Perhaps you can all chip in for something. I know I don't expect my girls to give me anything for that same reason.

This is absolutely a personal preference and decision, but this is what I would generally go by:

I absolutely agree. I'm requesting that my girls don't give me anything. If they want to get me a gift, they can get something, but I don't want them giving me $$. They are doing so much for me and are going to spend so much $$, I feel awkward for them to give me a check.

Re: How much to give at weddings
honestly give what u can! as BM i dont think u should give money unless u want to. giving even a small gift is nice. however there are many BMS who dont contribute to that much such as shower n bach party so in that case i think those girls should give money.

ITA.
My best friend is getting married in October, FH and I are both in the bridal party and we're planning on giving $500 even though he had to buy a GRAY suit for the wedding, I had to buy a $250 BM gown, bach parties and had to travel to her shower in western PA AND to the actual wedding in Philadelphia.
Oy vey. All I know is, I BETTER GET $500 BACK!

Re: How much to give at weddings
I always keep in mind that I wanna at least be able to cover my plate(as long as it's not a crazy price) and then add from there. I usually keep in mind that the plates are usually around $125(starting). And thats for a fri. If I go to a sat. I mught base it $150. And them if its a family or friend, I'll add to it.

Re: How much to give at weddings
We give $300 regardless of date/time/relationship UNLESS
a) that person gave us less or more at our wedding b) we feel closer and want to give more - i.e. close family member, part of the bridal party etc.

Re: How much to give at weddings
I thought you were to give at least 2x the cost of your plates??? And if it is close friend or family, 3x the cost. Hmmmm....

Re: How much to give at weddings
I would never give less than 250 per couple for a new york wedding.. no matter what the relationship may be.
I would give closer to 300 if its closer friend/family
