How much would you girls think is acceptable to give at a wedding for a couple? Would it make a difference if you are a bridesmaid..or if it is a friday night vs saturday night wedding? HELP!

I thought you were to give at least 2x the cost of your plates??? And if it is close friend or family, 3x the cost. Hmmmm....
So a person who has $200/plate wedding should get $800 if you're going as a couple Damn...wish I had invited you to my wedding
ETA: To answer the OP's question... I think generally between 200-300 is the norm if you are going as a couple.... personally, we always give 300, but for the weddings we have this yr, they all gave us 200 so they are getting that in return

I agree.. NY Weddings we never give less then $200 per person..
You all should know better then anyone else that NY Wedding are EXPENSIVE!!!

I usually give 300 per couple if we're just friends, etc etc. BUT if we're really good friends or family we give 400...450

A wedding gift is supposed to be what you WANT to give the couple, not based on other factors, daytime/night time, sat/fri/sunday, reception location, etc.........
We have never given less than $300. Based on who the person is, we go up from there. I was just in a BP for my BFF and we gave her $500. Whether she got married on a Monday or Saturday night, that was not going to change the amount I gave her. That is what FH and I felt was appropriate so that is what we gave. I think it is wrong for people to base it on the reception hall, date, etc. You should only be basing it on the couple whos wedding you are attending and the relationship you have with them, thats it.

I would give 100-150 a person, and more if it was someone close. We have no money now so that's why i said 100-150

The lowest we give is $200 total. Then we go up depending on how close we are with them...
I also factor in things like they much they gave us and if one or both of us is in the BP.
I think as we get older, we will raise our minimum. However, we're both 24, we just bought a house, and we're paying for the wedding---so right $200 is our minimum. That being said, we've given two $200 gifts this year, one $250 gift, and one $400 gift...so it ranges.

that's what is so confusing because as part of the bridal party i have spent hundreds of dollars (700-800) so far on other expenses such as bach party..dress..gifts..hair..etc. I am not sure if I am supposed to give more at the wedding because I am a bm..rather than what I can afford...ahh help!
I give more when I'm in the party IF I can. Chances are the bride isn't going to care if you give her an 'avearge' amount. She knows you spent a lot of money already and that you have to pay for your own wedding too. I personally don't care if my party gives me anything for the actual wedding because they are spending a lot on my shower and other things.

my fiance and i usually give around $300, depending on how close we are to the bride and groom. it doesn't really matter to me if it's a friday or a saturday. i would give what you can afford. it's the thought that counts!

I've only been to weddings of ppl I am not close to gave $100.. Heard some ppl giving $20 bucks

i usually give $300 to a couple and never go below $200. if i'm closer to the person, i'll give more than $300 or if i'm in the BP, i tend to give more, even if i've spent a lot of $ on all bridal stuff prior to the wedding.

YES i've heard people giving $50 from the entire family!!! but i think it's what people can afford to give and for some people, that's all they can give and it's nice that to have your guests there to celebrate your day.

yup we had 3 people give us $25 checks. They were from out of town though so i guess they have different ways of thinking.
