How much would you girls think is acceptable to give at a wedding for a couple? Would it make a difference if you are a bridesmaid..or if it is a friday night vs saturday night wedding? HELP!

I've only been to weddings of ppl I am not close to gave $100.. Heard some ppl giving $20 bucks
In New York??????
YES i've heard people giving $50 from the entire family!!! but i think it's what people can afford to give and for some people, that's all they can give and it's nice that to have your guests there to celebrate your day.
yup we had 3 people give us $25 checks. They were from out of town though so i guess they have different ways of thinking.
Oh boy, I have a lot to look forward to then!
FH's family is from Kentucky, North Carolina, Michigan, and Illinois. If that's how they do it there, maybe they just won't come?
At least I know we'll get really good gifts from most of my family lol.
We had a family of 6 come to our engagement party (which was in a nice restaurant's private room) and they gave $100 total. I was a bit shocked with that, but I got over it b/c it's an engagement party and at least that's still like $17pp . I guess people just do what they can. But if that was me, I'd be embarrassed to go and give a $25 gift! Better off staying home and then sending the couple something cheap off the registry IMO. Maybe that's snooty, but FH and I can't go out to a pizzeria for $25, let alone a wedding.
I don't believe in the whole 'cover your plate' nonsense, but I also don't think your gift should be less than the amount of money you spend on the dress you wore to the wedding IMO.

if you are close with the other BM and feel comfortable ask them how much they are giving. I was recently in a wedding and all of us BM decided on 300 each

For myself, I usually give $200 for both of us. I think with engagement gifts, bridal shower gifts, etc. it is fair. I hardly go to wedding these days because of the expense!
We did not have any wedding related type party (no eparty no shower) so I am hoping guests take this into consideration maybe--but our wedding is also out of town and does require overnight stays, so I am not expecting very much in return.

that's what is so confusing because as part of the bridal party i have spent hundreds of dollars (700-800) so far on other expenses such as bach party..dress..gifts..hair..etc. I am not sure if I am supposed to give more at the wedding because I am a bm..rather than what I can afford...ahh help!
I don't give more just because I was in the wedding... I usally factor in where it is. Which is probably wrong but whatever. I was in one wedding where I know they paid about $125pp and then I'll be in another where I know it's much less because of the venue. I basically try to cover my plate.
