How much do you give your friends at weddings? Not your best friend necessarily, just a good friend.
Me and my girls were talking about this the other night and we all had different ideas of what the 'standard' gift would be. . . .
I did it in a poll so no one has to say what they choose.
(if you and FH attended)

I give $100 pp. I think that's the standard - it may have gone up to $150 pp, but I can really only afford $100 pp so that is what I give.

Ooh, and I thought Mima was the fire starter! This could get hot...always a touchy topic.

That was what I had thought to, other people had different ideas though. I have a lot of weddings coming up for friends, so I was just wondering what most people give. . . .

If you have a lot coming up, that's even more reason to give $100. Or less - you give what you can. That's why it's called a gift. I don't care what kind of drama this starts - a gift is a gift and ANYTHING is more than enough. I understand we all want to give as much as we can for friends - but if I was having a rough month I would give less than $100 pp if I had to. Or delay the gift and tell the friend I would give it to her next month, etc.

I'd say $100-200pp depending on your relationship with the couple. One of my best friends was married last year, and I gave her $400 and a friend of mine from work got married and I gave $200. It all depends on 1. How much you can afford to give and 2. Relationship with the couple.

I know, it doesn't really matter in the long run - I float between $200 and $300 myself, but I really usually don't use much justification beyond what I can afford at the time lol.

I give a hand-made cross-stitch wedding sampler professionally framed, plus another like $100-150 cash. To frame the cross stitch alone costs at least $100, so I think it's a pretty good gift

Re: How much would you give as a wedding gift?
My answer for the original scenario...
FH and I to attend a wedding of a (not-close) friend.
I would give $200 as my total gift.

I think $300 is a Great gift especially now that I am having my own wedding. If you give $200 nowadays it's not even covering the cost of your plate.

Re: How much would you give as a wedding gift?
Just a question tho - i kinda base it also on what the couple is prob paying per head - just so its not really costing them to have me there.....
i always tend to feel like people get pissed when people do not give them enough to cover their plate..... does anyone else find that to be true?

Re: How much would you give as a wedding gift?
well we havent been to that many weddings but the standard for me is 300 per couple - if its someone closer then more - and now obviously i can have my little cheat sheet of who gave us what. But I'd say for the closer people I'd go and give $400 - $500
