how should I feel about this?

how should I feel about this?

Okay, my bridal shower was last sunday, right? So, I am going through the gift list looking to do thank you notes, and because I can not remember what my best friend - who is my MOH - got for me.

I figured out why. She didn't give anything. Although she DID give a pretty card.

Now, I know that gifts are the perogative of the giver, and that one should not expect gifts at any point.

But, I cannot help but think this might be a little strange.

Especially because my FH and I went to her job (she is a teacher) - him taking a day off from work - to help her clean up for the summer so that she could come to the bridal shower at all.

I am not quite sure HOW to feel here... Any advice?

hmmmm, not too sure. Maybe she is chipping in for a big wedding gift.

i guess i would think the MOH should give you something but thats because they are supposed to be the closest to you and who knows maybe she is doing something else for you

Did you MOH throw $$$$$ your shower for you?

I think you should feel happy that your made best friend was there and is just simply being your MOH. We, as brides, need to stop expecting gifts from people.

She said she didn't expect anything. She just said it was strange.

I agree that she may also be chipping in for a wedding gift or maybe didn't get around to getting you a gift yet or she probably felt like her just being there was enough.

Well, if she gave a card, it's not that she forgot to give a gift, she intentionally did not give one. That probably means she either put alot of money and time into the shower and/or that she is planning on a nice wedding gift. I wouldn't be upset about it just yet.

If she paid for the party than it is fine. I know we shouldn't expect gifts but the MOH...

I am learning that you just can't sweat the small stuff...sorry to sound cliche. I say let it go and don't be upset. Like others said maybe she is giving you a nice wedding gift.

Did she throw you the shower? If so thank her for that. If not I guess just thank her for taking the time to be there for you that day.

She thinks it's strange because she didn't get a gift and was expecting one. If she wasn't expecting one, then it wouildn't be strange, now would it.

My only question is: Did she pay for the shower? Maybe that's why she didnt get you anything.

I don't expect anything from my MOH or BMs b/c they purchased their dresses and a couple of them are flying in to be in the wedding. FH and I agree we do no want gifts from the BP. The mere fact that they agree to be in our wedding is the greatest gift they can give us. I would not let it get to you b/c you really do not know her financial state at the present time. Just be grateful that she was and is there for you!!

honestly I did not expect anything from my girls b/c i knew they were paying alot for the shower. they ended up getting me teh cake topper, cake server and toasting glasses. Which i thought was plenty( i only had two girls)

Remember your Maid of Honor is probably doing alot of things for you for this wedding. Sometimes the actions that she takes are more important. While it is great that your FH spent the time to help clean up, he was doing that for you (though through her), just as your MOH is probably doing many things (did she throw the shower?) for you and is probably spending alot of money in the end. The dress, the accessories, the hair and makeup...

You know the situation more than I do so I don't know.

Re: how should I feel about this?

I am sorry, I should have clarified:

She did not help pay for or plan any part of the bridal shower whatsoever, which was really okay. My mom and my FMIL actually did it all!

And she told me what her wedding present to us is going to be (it is forgiving a small but highly contested debt between us), which although somewhat unusual was absolutely fine with both FH and I. Maybe it has something to do with this?

We are usually pretty easy going and understanding about these things. We frequently have very little money and completely understand about that type of situation.

It is just a puzzling, unusual situation that I was not sure if i should read into or not. And, do I send a thank you for the very sweet card?

Thank you, fellow brides!

It sounds like that may be the gift. i would send a card, if not just for the card she gave to you, for also being your MOH.
