to ask for the people in the bridal party to give their (hopefully $$ gifts) at the rehearsal dinner?

my FH and I are coming up short and would appreciate the gifts early to pay for things that day.

has anyone done this? is there a polite way to ask?

Good luck raising the funds. Even if you put it on a CC it will only be for a few days. I am sure people will give you cash gifts the day of and most checks will begin to clear in a few days.

you will get checks in the mail prior to the wedding. Stockpile those.

Worst case scenario, you can open a few envelopes in the bathroom at the wedding to pay for things. Yes, it's tacky, but if you are desperate...
