We dont have a date in mind or even a time of year... heck we are not even 'officially engaged'...LOL. But we talk about it all the time.
We wont be getting married for another 2 years probably... but I cant even narrow down a time of year let alone date.
I love the thought of a spring wedding with pastel colors and beautiful Peonies... At the same time... The vision of a winter wedding in the snow wearing a beautiful gown and fur(faux) shrug would be a dream as well.
What finally made you have a 'TADA' moment and you knew exactly what your vision was?
eta.. last we were talking about 4th of July and making it a summer celebration. We are in Vegas and the fireworks and surroundings would be pretty.. BUT HOT! If we did a winter wedding it would be in the mountains somewhere.. destination .. which is no big because everyone would have to travel to be here anyhow (no family here)

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
Well... I LOVE fall.. So we wanted a fall wedding.... Our anniversary is in November... We wanted a Sunday wedding.. So we pointed and it was November 16... We wanted 2008 cos we didnt want to wait too long...
as far as winter wedding goes for you.... Not to be a downer, but with the way winters have been going, I highly doubt getting a day with snow is going to happen..... But even without snow, i will still be beautiful.. But if you visualize snow and thats the main reason for a winter wedding, I wouldnt go for it..... Spring is beautiful as well!

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
ok just seen your edit... All sound wonderful.... I say just write the seasons on pieces of paper and pick one blindly.... Sounds silly but at least it will work... Then do the same with the months and then the weekend (fri sat and sun) in that month and tada!
You seem to be open to any time so why not?

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
I didn't want summer (too hot) or winter (too cold). I wanted spring or fall and since we got engaged in October, the following spring was too soon. We didn't want to wait more than a year, so we went with fall of the following year.
Turns out we got married on the same weekend we got engaged, one year later.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
ours was a practical and tactical decision. LOL.
we both love winter, so knew we wanted to get married in the winter, and a sunday is cheaper. December is loaded with 6 birthdays (including FH's), and February flower prices jump for valentines.
My family is from Florida and we have OOT friends, so we had to choose a date that would be less inconvenient, so we went with MLK weekend sunday, fly in on Sat, out on Monday, dont miss work or school

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
we got engaged in August 07 and didn't want to wait until 2009 to get married. We felt spring of 08 would be too soon and so we picked september 2008. Unfortunately, once we saw Marina Del Rey, we were in love with it and the only dates available for the large room were August 23rd or October 18th. We both just didn't want an October Wedding for some reason. So Voila! Ausgut 23rd.
Once you pick a location, you might have certain dates to chose from, start working with that.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
Awww.. I dont know why but reading your responses makes me smile. how Exciting!!! :)
You're right about narrowing things down by deleting. For example.. even tho I would think we would want a 4th of july or a NYE wedding... the cost of rooms and events would sky rocket Im sure. Probably not worth it. I am SUCH a planner .. heck Im already planning Christmas for my family for 08! LOL
Our wedding would be on the small side and again, 95% of the people would travel here anyhow... so we can go anywhere (like Utah) .. just depends on what everyone else's schedules are I guess!
Im going to look around websites and look for pics from summer and winter weddings... and see what really grabs me.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
Me and my fiancee decided on October. We didn't want a hot time of year like the summer we were both in agreement on that. Then we found the place we liked and they had October and we thought that would be perfect! If you really want a winter wedding it is usually cheaper in the winter just to let you know! Good luck in your planning!!!

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
I always wanted a Spring wedding. I even had dates picked out in May from 2006-2008! FH didn't propose until this past Christmas and with me starting school again and a new job, I knew Spring '09 would be too soon but Spring '10 would be too far away. So, I figured September would be a nice month where it's not too hot, not too cold. So we looked at dates in September and decided we didn't want Labor Day weekend, we couldn't do the weekend of the 19th because of the Jewish holidays (I'm half jewish) and the 26th is 2 days after his birthday... so September 12th it was! Since it's not set in stone, we may also consider October 17th...

Well we went with temp and weather. We didn't want it blazing hot and freezing cold so I went in between and it was perfect. That's what I think normally people do.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
I knew that I didnt want winter or summer.. then I actually looked for a time that was no close to birthdays, lol. so we have something to celebrate all the time. Then memorial day weekend worked well for out of town guests.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
I have always loved the beginning of Fall and I knew I didn't want to suffer the heat of the summer. We chose Oct. 4 because it is 3 weeks after FH b-day and 3 weeks before mine. We also knew that we wanted to get married in LI and summer traffic can be monsterous!

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
September weddings seem to be a tradition in my family...my parents got married Sept 3, my sister on Sept 7, ours was Sept 2. I like the beginning of September because it's still summer-like weather, but comfortable, lower humidity, etc. My second choice would've been later in the fall with a fall theme but I had a friend do that so I didn't want to copy.
If you're thinking of a destination wedding in the mountains somewhere, try Estes Park, Colorado. Went to a wedding there, at the Stanley Hotel, which is the white hotel made famous in The Shining. Oddly enough, it's the second most popular wedding city, second to Vegas. It would be beautiful any time of year, even without snow, the mountains are gorgeous there.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
I really wanted a fall wedding but didn't want September. I wanted to see some pretty colored leaves on the trees. November wasn't an option because it's my bday and my dad's so we went with October

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
We got married on our 7th anniversary - it just worked out that the year after we got engaged our anniversary fell on a weekend, so we went with it. But.... other considerations we went through:
He doesn't like heat ('I don't want to sweat my rear off all day in that tux if it's my wedding' type discussion went on) so summer was out.
We're both graduate students, so we had to plan around the semester and with summer out that only left winter break, spring break, or waiting until we're both done with classes (and after 7 years we were ready to end the waiting!)
Perhaps you can decide based on a time that's convenient with your career not just for the wedding but in the longer term....what time of year will be good for going away on anniversary trips? that sort of thing

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
Hmm....how exactley did we pick a date
well we got engaged on July 3, 07 we figured we could do a July 3 wedding exactley 1 year later (July 3 in 08 is a Thursday).....that was the only day FH would do in the summer b/c it would have been sentimental and it would have been less expensive b/c its a Thursday.... otherwise we both were against doing the summer - too HOT for us.....late spring and early fall are more expensive and i consider those months wedding seasons and we wanted something a little different (and the off season IS cheaper!!) we also made sure to stay away from our birthday months, moms day, fathers day, valentines, etc. b/c we didnt want our anniversary to be close to any of those days - so all that left for us was December, January and March. Bad snowstorms can happen in January and March and its really cold - plus that would have brought our wedding into 2009. December worked out because we both LOVE (and i mean LOVE) Christmas and the Holidays......I found a review on here for a holiday wedding at our RH and it was gorgeous! So we were sold. We checked the calendar and decided the 1st weeked would be best - a week after Thanksgiving and 3 weeks before Christmas. We went to the RH and that Saturday was already booked - so we went with a Friday night - it worked out because the RH wouldnt lower the minimum for a Saturday anyway and the Friday was cheaper.....
I didn't plan on picking a time of year based on weather alone - because spring, summer and fall CAN ALL have rainy days, so for me it didnt make sense to pick a date hoping that the weather would be perfect (because if we booked for May or September, paid top price and then it rained i would have felt like we threw our money away) - i felt the same way about picking a RH - some places have gorgeous outdoor areas but you HAVE to have good weather to utilize them....so for me it was smart to have it in the winter when the prices were less......i love the RH we picked, i love the season and time of year we picked, i love that our anniversary will be around the holidays - so it all worked out
of course if someone else was footing the bill or if we were rich i would love to take a chance on the weather and have a gorgeous outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour in a beautiful garden overlooking the water during a sunset
ETA: i forgot to add that we thought it would be nice to go on a HM when the weather was cold here - we wont be missing any of the nice weather.... we'll actually get to have a break from the winter!

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
When u go look at places, they may only have certain dates available so it could wind-up being a no-brainer.
Also, not sure who is paying for your wedding, but if u are on a tighter budget, that will definitely influence your date. The price differences between peak and off-peak season are crazy. Getting married in the winter can = 1/2 the price.
A few things we considered: work schedules (summer = bad for me)
hair (humidity + my hair = disaster)
$ (spring = too much for us)
# of people attending wedding (will help decide whether u r going to have a thurs, fri, sat or sunday wedding (I definitely wanted to get married at night but we didn't meet the minimun # of people for fri or sat nite wedding so sunday it is)
