We dont have a date in mind or even a time of year... heck we are not even 'officially engaged'...LOL. But we talk about it all the time.
We wont be getting married for another 2 years probably... but I cant even narrow down a time of year let alone date.
I love the thought of a spring wedding with pastel colors and beautiful Peonies... At the same time... The vision of a winter wedding in the snow wearing a beautiful gown and fur(faux) shrug would be a dream as well.
What finally made you have a 'TADA' moment and you knew exactly what your vision was?
eta.. last we were talking about 4th of July and making it a summer celebration. We are in Vegas and the fireworks and surroundings would be pretty.. BUT HOT! If we did a winter wedding it would be in the mountains somewhere.. destination .. which is no big because everyone would have to travel to be here anyhow (no family here)

It was the only time both the church and reception venue were available before my 35th birthday LOL! And I wanted it to be warm still.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
LOL it's a long story.
I would have loved to get married on our anniv (9/1) but it fell on a weekend in 07 (way too soon) and won't again until 2012 (too far away).
I'm a law student and if we wanted enough time to go on a honeymoon, we basically had to get married during winter break or summer break. I immediately ruled out winter because I hate cold weather, and we will have many many OOTers travelling (many flying). Plus, I loooooove summer and warm weather. That left summer 08, or summer 09 - I ruled out summer 09 because I'll be taking the bar exam that summer and thought wedding + bar exam in the same summer would be unnecessary stress.
That narrowed it down to summer 08. The summer after your 2nd year of law school is the most important, because typically the firm you work for gives you a permanent offer at the end of the summer. I didn't want to have to miss work (or make my friends miss work) in order to attend my wedding. Soo... that narrowed it down the middle of May or the middle of August.
We went with August because I wouldn't be as distracted for exams, and I'd have the whole summer to do last minute wedding stuff. Plus, I like the symmetry of 08/_/08 and it's close to our anniv of 9/1. I have 2 weeks off between the end of my job and the start of classes, and chose the 2nd weekend. (gives me 1 week off before the wedding, and 1 week off for honeymoon). Plus, my birthday is 8/8/08 and wanted my birthday and our anniversary to be separate
Soo... that left the weekend of the 16th. I'm Jewish and Jews aren't supposed to get married on Shabbat (Fri at sundown - Sat at sundown) which ruled out Fri and Sat unless we wanted to start our ceremony REALLY late. That left Sun, Aug 17th!
I would have liked to get married on Aug 1st or Sept 1st but the dates just didn't work out for us, so 8/17/08 it is!

Think about what makes sense for your jobs as well (taking time off!). For us, I work in education, as does FH's mom....so the Summer was it! Plus, we love the Summer...winter just didn't make sense! Then, we chose based on hall availability and other summer traditions--it all just kind of worked out!

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
For us, it was both a practical decision and a personal desire. We love the winter and Advent specifically, so December was a good choice. It was also the best time of year for us with our work schedules. Further, DH's brother is still in college so our date was right before his finals and wouldn't mess up his sched, so it worked just right.
And to top it off, our date was the one year anniversary of DH asking for permission to marry me from my parents, so there was a sentimental value in the date as well.
I think you should think about your own lives and work schedules. Are there times that are slower than others? Will you be able to take off time surrounding the wedding? Once you answer those sorts of questions, I think you can start to think about halls, etc, and see what they have available.
Good luck!

FH and I are total math geeks.
our dating anniversary is: 12/19/03.
our wedding date is: 11/15/08.
all the numbers in both add up to the same thing! lol.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
We chose or should I rephrase this ... I chose our official first date for our wedding. This way he never forgets and we always celebrate the same time each year for our anniversary!
It was kind of special and nice on our wedding that we were having an anniversary

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
Seeing that we live in FL, and its warm here year round, we really wanted a wintery feel to the wedding. I didnt want the summer heat, and be sweating, and makeup melting off. Winter is romantic, and the BM dresses I like are more for fall/winter too. Also, the prices for halls are cheaper, so that also was a factor. As far as the date we chose, we knew we wanted it to be late November or beginning of December, not too close to Xmas. Also, the 29th happens to be my favorite number....

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
Just got engaged in december. We picked our date today!
The orignial date we wanted was 10/10/10 b/c like everyone else we thought it was catchy! But columbus day weekend sun. was too expensive.
we then wanted fall: oct. or nov. depending on price.
then i convinced FH to consider june (im a teacher). we looked at prices for june.
THEN we found out march was really cheap.
Last, we found the place we wanted for a good price in July, so we're getting married July 17, 2010 after changing the month MANY times.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
I HATE the winter, so that took out those months. I really wanted the summer so we were originally looking at August (my dear friend is getting married in July, so I was going for after her) but we ended up in April. FH's family is coming over from Australia and we wanted to make it easy for them too...April kinda worked for everyone.

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
Fall is my favorite season, so I really wanted a fall wedding, after that, I looked at what was peak season for foliage for the area, that narrowed it down to a few weeks.
Then I took out dates we were already busy and a Jewish holiday, so my BIL could come. That left me with 10/13 - so that was it!
Other things that people use are peak/off-peak wedding seasons - some times of year are less expensive than others
Types of flowers - if there is a specific flower that you love that is seasonal, it will cost less to have the bo-ks done in it's season rather than trying to get them off-season

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
We got engaged in November and didn't want to wait more than a year for the wedding. We set a budget before we went looking and had to stick with it because its all we have. So we told the places our buget, but wanted a warm, not too hot month. I orignally booked this april but 5 months seemed a lil crazy, and when I told people everyone thought I was prego! In my head I kept hearing april shower bring may flowers....so i bailed! Loved 8-8-8 and with leap year this year it fell on a friday, but august did not fit my budget and didn't want a friday nite. So June was not that pricey, and even cuter I got 6-7-8! Saturday afternoon wedding FYI-so affordable!!!

When u go look at places, they may only have certain dates available so it could wind-up being a no-brainer.
Also, not sure who is paying for your wedding, but if u are on a tighter budget, that will definitely influence your date. The price differences between peak and off-peak season are crazy. Getting married in the winter can = 1/2 the price.
A few things we considered: work schedules (summer = bad for me)
hair (humidity + my hair = disaster)
$ (spring = too much for us)
# of people attending wedding (will help decide whether u r going to have a thurs, fri, sat or sunday wedding (I definitely wanted to get married at night but we didn't meet the minimun # of people for fri or sat nite wedding so sunday it is)
This was kind of my thinking when I picked a date. I really didn't have a date in mind - just knew we wanted fall because we really like fall. We also wanted to go on a wintery honeymoon - we like to snowmobile, etc - and we went with late October partially because we'd have the best chance of getting snowy weather on the HM in canada or alaska at that time of year. Turns out Canada is still mild then, so Alaska it is for us.
I had about 8 dates available to me when I decided on my hall - and we just looked at the prices for each (day vs evening, fri night vs sat day vs. sunday night, etc .. ) and picked the cheapest one that met our needs (room preference, etc). I decided against a fri. evening because it would have caused issues with people getting off work, etc, and at our hall in our room, fri night weddings end at like 1:30, which my mom felt was too late (I also didn't want to be eating dinner at midnight, and she is paying!) ... so sat. afternoon it was! Now we can have a fun afterparty before the bars get too busy (I do not like crowded bars).

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
We knew we wanted a summer wedding because I was going to school at the time and would be off during the summer. Plus we knew summer would be an easier time for a lot of our guests to travel. I guess if you like all of the seasons, then your best bet would be to figure out which season /date would be the best for your guests. I would think if it gets really hot where you are during the summer, that might be hard for any older guests you might have. Another thing to think about, especially if your flexible with your date, is that RH usually charge differently depending on which times of the year are more popular for weddings. They also charge less for certain days of the weeks (Fridays and Sundays are usually less than Saturdays) and they tend to charge less if you get married on a holiday. Being flexible with your date is actually a good thing because if you find a RH that you love, you won't have to worry that they'll be booked up for your date. When you and your FH are ready, you should start looking at RHs and then when you find one you love, ask them what dates are available and what they suggest - that might help you narrow it down. Good luck!

Re: How the heck did you decide on your date?
We booked out wedding around FH's travel plans. He geos away a lot for business and September was the quietest month. We also needed warm weather because we are getting married on the beach.
