I really want a band for our wedding but my FH doesn't want one b/c he feels they 'butcher' every dance song and can't play the songs he wants. In any event, if he thinks a DJ is playing 50 cent or Eminem or Korn or something at my wedding he can think again. I think a band is classier then a DJ (that's just my opinion, don't get offended by that). How can I get him to agree to a band? We went to some showcases and he didn't like any of them. We also saw a band with a DJ combo thing but the woman who manages them was a total psycho and I'm not dealing with her. As an aside, I think she googled me b/c she somehow got ahold of my work info and would call me at work to ask me to go to showcases on a bi-weekly basis. Anyway, I digress, how can I get him to book a band???? Help me!

have him go to showcases bc they do not butcher songs...if you get the right band they will do an awesome job!

I think a GOOD DJ would not have to be told that Korn would scare grandma, and a good band would not sound or look like a vegas lounge act......
You should just keep shopping around (but don't even meet people way out of your budget range..). At some point, you will find someone who just clicks with the both of you.
We were similar to you. He wanted a band, and I wanted a DJ. (We were both scared of possible chicken dances... ) We went with a rather unique DJ (www.djgaza.com), becuase our desired ambiance required something more low-key than traditional DJ's. We know he wont be Korn-y.
But, it took a lot of searching to find him, so just stay open-minded, and keep searching. Don't forget to also look at NYC wedding websites....
good luck!

If you FH is anything like me, you will not be able to convince him to get a band. While I disagree with his assessment that bands 'butcher' all dance music, I don't like them at weddings. In my experience they are too loud for the size of most reception hall rooms. It is next to impossible to have good conversation with people sitting next to you. Yes, occasionally a DJ will play too lud, but he, unlike a band, can just turn the volume knob down.
Additionally, if I want to hear Frank Sinatra (who I love) I don't want to hear some copy cat imitation guy who thinks he sounds like Sinatra at an exorbitant amount of money when a DJ can give me a recording of the real thing.
JMHO.

What if you suggested that you go to showcases for both bands and DJ's (If DJ's do showcases, I don't even know). They you can both get a sense of what you really like. Go to a few showcase of each, not just one, so you really get a good idea of what will work for you. I just booked Soul Revival from a showcase we saw a few weeks ago. Fh and I both knew we wanted a band, but they were by far the best from who we saw. FM me if you want more info

Re: How to convince FH? Need help
We were in the complete opposite situation. FH really wanted a band and I wanted a DJ. What we did was we knew bands were a lot of money so I said either we spend the money on the band but not go on a honeymoon for as long as we want to and he chose to have the DJ. Now both of us are happy plus we found a DJ who we really like.
