I have never haggled before, and we are looking at a reception hall where we would also have our ceremony. They are a bit out of our range, and would like to try to get them to lower their price. Has anyone here done this and succeeded? Also, how did you negotiate the price?

Re: How to negotiate prices.
I upped our minimum and they lowered the price
You can also ask them to remove some things
Tell them what you can afford sometimes they will meet it
Be flexible with the date

Good Luck

Re: How to negotiate prices.
My RH has two different menus one which is more expensive and includes alot of stuff which we went with and I guarenteed more ppl so it made it cheaper and I asked him to throw in the something that usualy cost more for free and he did so I was happy with that. Plus we went with a sunday day wedding.

You can totally negotiate prices!! I have became really good at it since I have been planning the wedding. What RH are u interested in? I gave the RH I liked quotes from other places, I asked for a brunch wedding, I made my wedding on a Sunday. You can ask to take out unneeded expenses if there are any. You can also ask for prices for each month to see the difference. Tell them that you genuinely adore their RH and tell them the price you are looking to spend. I know my friend also got her RH down by guaranteeing a certain amount of people. You can do it!!!

With our reception hall they gave us a price, we went home and thought it over and said 'this is what we can do' and gave them our best offer. They were willing to work with us.

Re: How to negotiate prices.
we asked them. well first FH & I had a figure in our head that was reasonable...and we went a few dollars lower than that and then met in the middle...we said we REALLY LOVED the place and we're deciding between theirs and anothers and would really love to get married at theirs but if the price could be a little lower...and then we had success only if we were to drop a deposit before the end of the week and I said I'll come by tonight :)

That's exactly what we did. We found a place that offered us more at a lesser price and our RH was able to match and up what they were offering. It also helps to play good cop/ bad cop. If they see that one of you really wants the place, but the other is willing to walk away, then they are more willing to work with you. They might try to get you to give a higher minimum gaurantee, but try to meet them halfway.

Re: How to negotiate prices.
Be flexibe wit dates, times, minimum amounts, etc., also be honsest and tell them what you can afford, what you are looking to spend.
Most places would try to work with you to book the venue so they dont have an unbooked date and will take out things that you may not necessarily need/want.

lol, for some reason I imagined you guys in the RH in suits like cops. hahaha
IF your RH really sees one of you is interested they may even call and follow up w you on a lower price. the place my FH loves has done that and lowered it a lot. I'm waiting until April to book I think but maybe they'll even come down more.

Re: How to negotiate prices.
I asked if it was a lower price since it was a holiday weekend and a Friday, and they gave me one. Not sure if I was really haggling or if they always give that price for that day of the year, but we got what we wanted for a price we can afford.

Re: How to negotiate prices.
Odd enough, we didn't ask. One place did give us a break when we told them what other places were charging. We didn't book with them though. Most places , like flowers and photos the price was set in stone.

Re: How to negotiate prices.
I did this with all my vendors, but asked for extra stuff more so than lowering the price. I pretty much said 'throw in such and such and we'll sign'. the bridesmaid dresses I shopped around and asked them to match the lowest price I found and they did- and knocked off $55 on each! Also got $100 knocked off my dress... I also got a viennese table, engagement pics and airport transportation for no extra $ to name a few :)

Re: How to negotiate prices.
First thing: You have to figure out where you want to be, always shoot low even if you're thinking $50 would be perfect, shoot for $35 and you can always work from there. Normally, they will give you a counter offer and RH always asks about your minimum. So BE PREPARED on what you want.
Second: Always ask. Sometimes you can just ASK and they are willing to drop the price a bit. Pretty easy for just ASKING.
Third: Don't get discouraged when they say no and if they are not willing to negotiate. Some places say they give 'the best price' immediately.
MOST IMPORTANT: DON'T BE SHY TO ASK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
