How to negotiate prices.

Original post by KarynK

I have never haggled before, and we are looking at a reception hall where we would also have our ceremony. They are a bit out of our range, and would like to try to get them to lower their price. Has anyone here done this and succeeded? Also, how did you negotiate the price?

First thing: You have to figure out where you want to be, always shoot low even if you're thinking $50 would be perfect, shoot for $35 and you can always work from there. Normally, they will give you a counter offer and RH always asks about your minimum. So BE PREPARED on what you want.

Second: Always ask. Sometimes you can just ASK and they are willing to drop the price a bit. Pretty easy for just ASKING.

Third: Don't get discouraged when they say no and if they are not willing to negotiate. Some places say they give 'the best price' immediately.

MOST IMPORTANT: DON'T BE SHY TO ASK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you completely. remember, they work for you!

I went in not acting like I really wanted the wedding/ceremony there. (I REALLY REALLY want it) We sat down and she said the price was this, and I let her go through the whole thing and asked if the price is adjustable. She scrunched her face and said well, mostly just by $5.00. She mentioned something about checking it out. I wonder if she is waiting for us to decide.
It's for a June Sat evening, min 185. Our date was already taken, so we're looking instead of May 2011. Which is the 'in season'.
We're thinking maybe changing the date to the first week of April and still get our Sat evening. The asking price for in season is $175 per guest. A lil too much for us.
Will see what happens.!
