How to tell a vendor you aren't interested...

I met with a photographer over the weekend - she was quite lovely but not exactly what we were looking for. She sent a follow-up email after our appointment. My response back to her closed with 'We will definitely reach out if we have any questions.'

We know that we will not be using her. Is it best practice to let vendors know this right away, if ever? What do you all typically do in these situations?

Ugh! I hate that. I usually just say 'thank you for taking your time to meet with us. We have talked it over and have decided to go with someone else.' SOmething like that.

This.
I had two venues call me after we booked our venue to see if we were still interested.

this is what we usually say. vendors know you are meeting with more than one person so its not a total shock when they find out you havent picked them. its definitely a difficult conversation. we liked SO MANY of the vendors we met with even when we didnt decide to use them. FH and I had some guilt feelings about how nice people were. i told him a few times i wish i could be friends with some of them. haha.

How to tell a vendor you aren't interested...

Just wanted to offer some of my thoughts as a 'vendor' myself... I ALWAYS appreciate when my brides let me know one way or another what their decision is. I don't need details about where you're going or what went wrong, but it's nice to know right away that I have that date officially open for someone else. I think it's nicer than completely ignoring me!

With that being said, I know as a bride the only time I have told people 'No' is if they actually come back to us with a phone call/email and ask what we have decided (I have found a lot of vendors don't ask- in which case, you don't have to respond). If they ask, be honest. If not, I think you are free!

HTH!

'We decided to go with someone else' that, in my opinion, is the safest bet!
