Just a quick question, how true to size are most gowns everyone has tried on?? I think they run small, in my opinion.

They ordered me one size up from my normal size. Sizing depends on the designer, I think.

Thank god!!!! When I was trying on gowns last night I felt like a whale, it was ridiculous. I'm not a big girl and not tiny either but it was ridiculous, I felt awful and embarrassed.

me, too. I agree that it depends on the dress and designer.

Actually, all the dresses I tried on were true to size, with the exception of very few. I think David's Bridal had the closest size fit of all of them - and I'm a plus sized bride.

Re: how true to size are gowns??
As someone else posted, it depends on the designer. I usually wear a 14/16 (not plus, but regular size) in street clothes, but my wedding dress is a 22....due my large bust size . The designer is Jamine Couture.
As for the BM dresses, they are by Lazaro (who also makes wedding dresses) and I was told by the sales associate that this designer's sizes are about 2-3 sizes smaller than street clothes. So a 4 in street clothes would wear a 8-10 in the dress. I forwarned my girls about that so they did not flip when they had to order a larger than normal for them size.

Mine was an 8. In dresses I am normally a 4/6, in clothes 2/4....so who knows? I agree about David's. Last BM dress from there, I was in a 4. I have been in BM dresses that have been a 12 though (still at this size). It really depends.

Re: how true to size are gowns??
They do run smaller than regular sizes.
Another thing to consider is that we rarely wear clothes form-fitting as a bridal gown and very few people have consistent proportions. So often, the dress has to be ordered larger so they room to take it in to create a fit for your body. And you might need more room in the bust than in the waist or vice versa, so they order the bigger size.
ETA: If you are on the larger size, like a 14 or a 16, it often means they have to order a 'plus' size and they often charge more for them
Good to know, so I'll be prepared. I used to be a size 14, and now I'm an 8-10 (street clothes), but I guess I'll be wearing a 14 again for my wedding!

The woman at davids told me their wedding gowns run small and BM dresses are true to size.

Re: how true to size are gowns??
I definitely think it depens on the designer. My dress was ordered in the exact size I wear everyday.
