I went to the Huntington townhouse last week and they told me that I couldn't taste the food!! Has anyone had their reception there or know someone who did?

Huntington Townhouse- the place is a joke!

I went there when I was looking for a reception hall. We laughed the whole way home at that place! She told us we couldn't try the food either......that translated to 'Our food sucks, but we still want you to book here!' No thanks! Lisa

Food tasting

I booked the Watermill, but they also said that they don't do food tasting b/c they are 'one of the most reputable places on LI', which I think was a bit snobby of them. I guess we had the choice to eat at their restaurant (as paying customers), but I have never heard anything bad about the Watermill, especially the food.

Huntington Townhouse

I was MOH at a wedding there in November of 2000. The food was horrible. There were many weddings going on at the same time and everyone kept bumping into each other. Noone at the wedding liked the food. In fact, they still say that to this day.

Camille, My best friend got married there in Feb 2000. There were other weddings going on at the time, but I don`t remember seeing anyone else. I don`t actually remember the food, but I also don`t remember anyone hating it. The only complaint I had about them is that they had this 'house' vendor package that seemed like a real deal, but my friend was pretty disappointed with their DJ, Photographer and Videographer. So, if you book there, beware of the vendors they suggest for you!

Nina.....

My wedding is at the Watermill also on April 20th. You're right, they don't let you taste the food, but you can try it at one of their showcases. The night we booked the room, they gave us $25 towards their restaurant. We ate there and loved it. I have never heard a bad thing about them! Lisa

Booking without tasting

Wow....I can't imagine my FI or I would have booked anyplace without tasting the food first. If we had been told that we could not taste the food before signing a contract, he would have walked out immediately. In fact, he made it clear to Coral House that he wanted to taste SOMETHING that would potentially be on our menu before he signed a contract. We did, and even had a second tasting as they didn't have one of the items we really wanted that night. They give you a portion of what is being served at an event taking place that evening, so you see exactly what it will look like, and how it will taste. Nothing will be on our main menu that we haven't tasted previously. FI works with people who play in bands, and they keep telling him that the food can make or break an event, even moreso than music. If people are not happy with what they are given to eat, apparently it effects the whole evening. (Personally, I am not THAT fussy when I attend a wedding, but I want to make sure my guests have the best food available). Even a place that says you can taste AFTER you sign is suspect to me. Just my opinion....

Stay Away from that place. I went to a wedding there July of 2000 and the food was beyond disgusting. I mean it was something majority of the guest agreed on and there were about 300 of us. Also if you go to the better business bureau website and do a search on them they have a lot of complaints and an unsatisfactoty rating.

Huntington Townhouse

The Townhouse is a wedding factory. My family went to an affair there years ago and could not believe how they were shuffled from room to room, tons of brides were in the same places. I did not hear about the food one way or the other. I am shocked that the Townhouse does not do tastings, since it is pretty much a wedding place. Lots of people have their Proms there too. We did not do a tasting at The Hamlet before we booked but instead went on reputation. They also have a small resturant.

Not that you haven`t already heard enough negative about that place, but I`ll add my 2 cents. My fiance works in various catering halls in the area. He has seen the kitchen and food prep areas of the Huntington Townhouse, and said that he wouldn`t feed what was prepared there to a dog. The prep area is disgusting and dirty. The food is awful. He is not picky (he eats my cooking, so he can`t be) and he REFUSES to eat there under any circumstances.

Huntington Townhouse - don't go there!!!

It used to be a well known, respected, classy reception hall, and the food and quality of service used to be wonderful. But, that was about 20 years ago. Since then, it has become a place of last resort (and even then, I'd sooner have a wedding elsewhere). It has now become a tacky, tastless, rude, and lying establishment. Please, don't consider it!
