Hyatt Kawaii Under Construction 4/03-12/03

Original post by HappyEverAfter

In my research on where we should stay in Hawaii, I ran into this post on weddingchannel.com. Thought you ladies might want to take a look...

**WARNING: Kauai Hyatt Under Construction 04/03 - 12/03**
I just read the following bulletin about the Kauai Hyatt:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION (08/30/02) The Hyatt Regency
Kauai Resort and Spa will be replacing its roof
beginning April 2003. The expected finish date is
December 2003. Taking small sections of the roof, they
will remove the old tiles and add the new tiles onto
the sub straight. As each section is completed, the
surrounding landscape will be restored. Periodically
from June through December they will finish painting
the exterior of the resort. This will entail
scaffolding and hanging ladders around the perimeter
of the building in scheduled phases--June 12-July 18,
August 12-September 13, and November 18-December 20.

I wanted to make sure that anyone else planning a 2003 Kauai honeymoon had this information before they made their plans.

From the sounds of it, it looks like I just missed the construction- but who knows- they could delay or change the date.... Those dates can't be set in stone!

I spoke to my friend and she told me that they are re-storing the roof. That is it! It will be done by the end of the year and the Hyatt is working with all guests to make sure they are accomodated by upgrades if the noise is too loud or moving guests to the other side of the hallways before arrival.

She said have no fear the Hyatt is working with everyone to make their stay as enjoyable as it should be.

Liz what were you told by the Hyatt?

Let me go check my email now.................

I guess I should've checked my email earlier, here's the reply from a rep at Kauai:

Lizabeth,

Thank you for your e-mail. Please let me clear up some of the
information that is being provided on the extent of the renovations at
the hotel.

We are planning to begin a roof re-tile and a room renovation project
the last week of March, 2003. These projects will not close nor hamper
any of the facilities on property.

The Anara Spa's roof is not scheduled to begin until mid September at
the earliest and the building painting is already complete.

The renovation in March we hope is as inconvenient on the guests as
possible. We are using electric cranes instead of diesel cranes to
eliminate all the noise. The work will be done from the back side of
the building so the pool and ocean views will not be effected. Any
rooms that are in the area of the work will be placed out of order so
that it will not inconvenience the guests as well.

The Hyatt Maui is complete with their room remodel and I believe are
scheduled to be done in the next few months on the work they are doing
on 1/2 of their pool.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if you have any
additional questions.

Aloha

Does this mean the spa will be closed during the renovations? I was planning my HM for mid-sept. I was certainly looking foward to some good spa services after all the stress of the last few months.

UPDATE

I spoke to my TA today, and I will STAY in Hyatt Maui. Their pool construction is finished.

I am very much considering switching over to the Princeville in Kauai, I know it's suppossed to be a little snooty, but I know it's beautiful and romantic, which is my purpose in Kauai. I still have to talk this over w/Len, but my TA also doesn't feel comfortable w/the construction in Kauai and will switch me over.

Ladies, if you are considering switching hotels, do it soon. When news of this really comes out, many couples will be switching over, you want to make sure you do it before all the good hotels in Kauai are booked.

Good Luck.

Ooh now I don't know what to do. I was really lloking forward to the Hyatt Kuaui
I guess the Hyatt Maui is good to go but now I have to decide if I shoudl stay at the Princeville or somewhere else on Kuaui?

Lizlen - are you going to get the same price even though you aren't staying in 2 Hyatts?

Keep in mind that where the Princeville is located is more secluded I have heard then where the Hyatt is. Princeville is North where it rains much more than the South.

UPDATE AGAIN

I have officially changed from the Hyatt to the Princeville for Kauai. I kept the Hyatt for Maui. This actually saves me $300, except breakfast is no longer included ,however 300 can pay for breakfast I still get my rental jeep.

My reason: This is my honeymoon, I decided why should I take a chance of it being disturbed even a little bit. My reason for choosing Kauai was to get spa treatments, and to enjoy the natural beauty of the island. I don't want that compromised even a wee bit w/construction. So, even though I got the email, I still am not comfortable - so I changed to the Princeville. I spoke to my Matron who stayed there, and she said the Princeville is a beautiful experience. As for the weather, she said it's no more than a 5 degree difference in weather.

Ladies, all I can say is . . . do your research, and make a decision based on what you're looking for. And let us know, of course, what you decide.

I got a good price on the Sheraton in Kauii, they are running a sale which was a big difference in price from the Hyatt. Also the Sheraton has a one level upgrade for honeymooners.
