my personal opinion is that hydrangeas (sp? lol) say 'centerpiece' to me, and peonies say 'boquet.
My friend with fabulous taste says hydrangeas are for bridesmaids, peonies are for brides.
Theres two opinions!!
ita. I love peonies in a bouquet. I am peonies, ranuculas (which looks like a mini peony) & roses

Re: hydrangeas vs peonies?
My bouqet is going to be all white mini cala lillies and I was thinking of the girls having the peonies with the roses instead of the hydrangeas. I thought the peoplies looked nicer adn I wanted the CPs to reflect the same elegance but hydrangeas are good fillers

I would say roses would go better with hydrangeas.

I think you are definitely right. Peonies for boquets! The centerpieces are totally up to you, i've only ever seen the hydrangeas in centerpieces either way it will be beautiful!

Re: hydrangeas vs peonies?
dont use hydrangeas in a BQ, they tend to wilt faster...they are very delicate and are better in centerpieces. I'm going with peonies in my bq.

Oh I didnt even think of that!!! I think I'm pretty set on peonies in the bouqets, I'm really unsure about the CPs more then anything

Wow either or you can't make a bad choice! I think if it were me I'd do peonies with roses for the bouquets, hydrangeas in centerpiece-just like Mrs K to be said.

I thought peonies are only available during certain months (like april and may). You might want to check into that.

I personally hate peonies and told my florist I want them no where near my wedding so I am bias. But she told me they are only available in the spring anyhow.

this is true. cabbage roses and rananculus (sp?) are the imitations that most people use in summer/fall.

Re: hydrangeas vs peonies?
I agree about the hydrangeas in the centerpieces and peonies in the bouquets. I have big bushes of hudrangeas in my front yard and I cut them and put them in vases in the summer and they last. However, this past summer I cut them and put them in little cups outside during a bbq and forgot the water and they didnt last very long. I think they need to stay hydrated to look nice.

Re: hydrangeas vs peonies?
hydrangeas are better in CPs, they die so quick in bouquets. Peonies are only in season a couple of months out of the year and I think it is May and June.

Re: hydrangeas vs peonies?
I really wanted peonies and the florists told me they are really only in season basically in May and June- possibly the very beginning of July. A friend of a friend is related to an importer and he told me they may be availabe in Holland at that time but it will cost to get them!

Re: hydrangeas vs peonies?
this is my centerpiece with a mix of all 3 flowers.
Peonies are only in season during the spring. I did want to use them but they go out of season at the end of May.

I met with a florist yesterday who said that peonies have a very short season and won't be available in Sept. I was very disappointed. I already knew that blue and white hydrangeas would be my focal point flower but I had my heart set on peonies.. oh well...
