Tomorrow night I am going to the hospital for a sleep apnea test. I have to be dropped off at 9pm and they hook me up to a ton of monitirs than I have to sleep there while they record the activity of my heart, brain, etc. I have to be picked up at 6am when the test is over.
My mom was diagnosed with sleep apnea a few years ago and my grandmother and great grandmother both died in their sleep (they were both over 70) but the dr. thought it would be a good idea for me to be tested b/c of the family history and I am always tired, snore, and wake up w/ headaches sometimes.
I hate the hospital soooo much and now I have anxiety about it.
Sorry so long, I just needed to get that out

Re: I am a little nervous
my BIL had to do that and now he sleeps with a cool machine thingie - my sister calls him Darth Vader. . .anyway - it completely changed his life. . . he sleeps better, he has more energy - lost weight - and just generally feels better! AND he had no idea that anything was caused by sleep apnea!
better to take care of it now! you wil be fine - keep us updated

Jess...my aunt died of Sleep Apnea in June 2001. I am sooo glad you are going to get this checked out. It is very important that you have this monitored. Do you have to go more than once?
Don't worry everything will be fine!

Thanks, I will find out the results in 2-3 weeks and if I have it I go back and they test me with the machine on. The dr. said if I have it there is a new device that is a lot easier than the mask, it is a mouth piece. So we will see what happens

Re: I am a little nervous
awwwwww i'm sorry, i hate hospitals too so i can understand why you'd be anxious.
but its just for the night and for most of the time you'll be sleeping...and when you wake up you get to go home!!
good luck, i'm sorry you have to do this but at least when it's done they should have some answers and then you can find out what your options are.
let us know how it goes!!

My sister went for that at Good Sam recently. She said they put you in a room that's not so much like a hospital room (King size bed and cable and all). She said the annoying thing was the probey stickey things and the wires. She was restless b/c she was away from her husband and 2 yr old son.
You will be fine. She said it wasn't 'hospital-ish' or anything.

Re: I am a little nervous
my dad has sleep apnea, he had laser surgery to help... he still snores really bad but he can breathe a lot better. i know it's scary, but it's so much better to find out now than to find out later you know?
i'll keep you in my prayers. i'm terrified of hospitals too, and even though i had a scary test done with scary results, it's so much better to know that i have a disorder and be able to treat it.
