I had a horrific dental experience yesterday. Well, the dentist wasn't bad, just that I'm petrified of the dentist and sat in the chair for 2 HOURS!!!!
He had to do three things on my upper left side....two small fillings and a porcelain veneer. A piece of filling fell out and he suggested that removing the rest would and putting in a veneer would look better and be stronger. By the time he was done drilling, I had an OUTLINE of my tooth only : (
He gave me 12, yes 12 shots of novacaine because it hurt so bad. To make it worse, my jaw is aching like all heck because it was wide open and pried apart for hours : (

aw, the dentist could be traumatizing. Next time get the gas, it puts you in a happy place.
Does it really take away the pain?
It doesn't really, and it won't do anything for the pain after the procedure. But it helps ease your fear during your time in the chair. I'm terrified of all doctors, I get the gas even for a cleaning

Hope you're feeling better by now!! If not, and you've tried the over-the-counter stuff like orajel and it's not working, you can ask your dentist to prescribe liquid xylocaine. It's a clear numbing gel that you can apply to the painful area with a q-tip. My dentist did this for me a few yrs ago when I had a root canal. I also used this way back in 1990 when I had mouth sores from chemo. Just be careful to numb the painful part, and not your tongue! I did that once!
FEEL BETTER SOON!!!!

To top it off they have to drug me to get me into a dentist office i am that petrified... Before my teeth didn't have ANY pain...now lots of it even when i brush & floss... I feel soo bad for you or anyone going through that!!! FEEL BETTER!!!
I'm sorry to hear about what you've been through. Keep up the good work and stay brave....your teeth will be back to normal in no time!

Do they give you novacaine on top of the gas?

Thanks for the info. I need to go get more Orajel. Thankfully the pain is much better than yesterday. My jaw is achy from keeping it wide open for two hours straight....it didn't help that he was prying it open way past the limit.

OMG - Girl, I feel your pain - Literally!
My mouth is such a mess right now because of my 'phobia'. I had to have emergency surgery last wednesday night - the dentist gave me two Halcion to take an hour before my appointment, gave me sweet air when I got there and lord knows how many shots of novacaine. As completely out of it as I was (I barely remember any of it) I was still screaming and crying. I'm such a pu$$.
's for you

Have you tried using Sensodyne toothpaste? The trauma your teeth suffered may have made them sensitive. I can't brush with anything but. If I run out and use FH's, within days my teeth hurt even when I'm not doing anything.
