Okay so i mailed out my 100 invitations on saturday and 1 got returned to me (my cousins invite). I knew that the address was correct so i had no clue what happened.
I went down to the post office this morning to ask and the lady gave me such an attitude. Now in my opinion, 8 am is too early for attitudes! She told me that the invitation went into the machine (they were all hand cancelled by the way so why it went into the machine i don't know) upside down and therefore the return address was read instead of the address on the front. So then she proceeds to tell me that how i addressed the envelope was incorrect. That the correct way is to have the return address on the top left hand corner, not on the back flap. So i said... 'But it's a wedding invitation and i've never heard of it being a problem.' And then she gets all snippy with me saying that it is incorrect to have the address on the flap and that the stationary stores never think to ask the post office what works for them. Okay! whatever!
But i've never heard of such a thing. It's not my fault someone put the invitation in the machine upside down. I mean come on!

I think it's just the PO. A lot of girls have had varying reactions from the area PO. I just mailed out some more this morning for my wedding and the PO in Setauket are the nicest people in the world.

Yeah well i'm out in east hampton (way out east) so my choices are a bit limited. But still... i wasn't giving the lady a problem. I was simply inquiring why it was returned. It just gets me when people are assh*les for NO reason.

Snotty! She is obviously having a bad day!
Now I could be wrong - but I think it's recommended that you actually hand over your invitations personally to the Post Office rather than dump them in the appropriate box and You can ask to have them hand stamped. This will prevent destroying an expensive invitation. I think...
Anyone else have any more info on this?

Some people are grumpy. Don't let her ruin your day. The returning mail happened to me with an engagement ty i put the return address on the back and they mailed it back to me - so i just dropped it back in the mail to the proper party.

Insanity...that's why I told them Monday night when they wouldn't give me my daughter's package with MY name on it, 'this is why people come in here and shoot the place up, you realize that, right?'

NO BUENO!!!!!! It doesn't matter WHERE the return address is located!! You can print it across the bottom of the back of the envelope for all you care! Some envelopes don't even HAVE a return address on them!
I have never heard of such a thing!!!

200 compared to 357?!?!?! thats a serious difference!!!!!
I went home yesterday for lunch and we had gotten 5 rsvp's (our first by the way). And steve opened ALL of them! I told him that he needs to learn how to share!

I agree though, there's no rule as to where the return must be. you should see our catalogs that i mail out for work...the TO address is in the middle of the back cover and the return is across the bottom. NONE have been delivered to us.

RIGHT? where was this guy's brain when he ran it through the machine? how hard is it to notice if there's a stamp...the machine should've registered for no postage first.
