I am pi$$ed the heck off..(Vent)

I am pi$$ed the heck off..(Vent)

So I call my reception hall and spoke to a banquest manager about a tasting. Now this is not the guy who is handling my wedding, just some random banquet manager. So I proceed to ask him about tastings, and he tells me they don't do that. Now I am not really that worried about the food because i know they have a great reputation and what not but I think it is absolute malarky(sp?) to tell someone they have to pay you excess of $10k and pick a menu by guess, you have got to be kidding. I really did not think of it before but i will be calling MY banquet tomorrow to let him know how pissed I am. I mean get real, the guy I spoke to on the phone said they don't do it because they don't have a resturant there(he said it very nicely, there was no attitidue involved) Isn't that the lamest thing you have ever heard. The same way they can get me in a room alone to write them a downpayment check is the same way they could get me a plate in privacy, no restaurant needed. I have to choose 8 out of 18 dishes for my international buffet, and how does he think I am going to do that by guess? What an a$$hole. I just really feel like venting. It is not the food I am worried about it is the stupid policy. FH thinks I am overreacting. What do you think?

Thats bull that they can't do it because they don't have a restaurant. Most places I checked out offered it as well as my hall and they just scheduled us to come in for a tasting when they had another function going on. That way they had food prepared for an actual event and they weren't just preparing it especially for us. Ask your personal banquet manager if it is possible for you to come in when they are holding a function so that you have an idea of what you would like served at your wedding.

My hall had us come in while a wedding was in progress to taste the food. We came in about halfway thru the cocktail hour and they made us up a plate of everything served that night. We ate in the office and had a blast! The food was terrific and it was nice to see the place set up for a wedding.

Perhaps you could ask if you could come in like that. The other bride and groom wouldn't have to know you were there.

Hope this helps

even though milleridge has a restaurant on site, the chef for the inn (restaurant) is different from the cottage (reception hall)...so they suggested we do a tasting...they scheduled it for us, picked a few things that we could be selecting from and had us come in to the banquet office where they put us in an office and served us a few things from the cocktail hour and 3 different main course meals...

i don't believe that they refused you a tasting especially when they already got your deposit...definitely call the banquet manager you were dealing with

That does not sound right. My hall does not do tastings but they have a restaurant and we were told we can come in and sample the food for free since it is the same chef. I would speak to the person you dealt with originally and voice your concerns. And you're not overreacting!

NYCHIC: I'm getting married there too. I cant believe they don't do tastings. I've never heard a bad thing about the food, but we should be entitled to a tasting even if it's during a wedding and they set us up in a seperate room.

I cannot wait to talk to my banquet guy to let him have a piece of my mind. I don't even think it should be aloowed to Not have a tasting at a catering hall. I mean for Christ's sake they seem to forget that if my food is horrible my wedding will be as good as ruined. The nerve of these people

We met went to Terrace on the Park and when FH asked about tastings, the banquet manager said that they don't do that. Because it would be an insult to the chef to have a tasting as if his food wouldn't be good. He said the are one of the premier banquet halls in the city, blah blah blah

BTW...I don't think you are overreacting

An insult to their chef How about the fact that it is an insult to my pocket book to not know what the heck I am feeding my guests. The nerve.............

Same thing at Huntington Townhouse. I asked the owners son and he said you do not have to worry, we have a world known chef....blah blah blah, and we dont provide tastings...I dont understand why they cannot bring us in while there is a wedding going on and let us sample the food.

My reception hall doesn't do tastings either. Luckily for me I have been there many times before and have tried a lot of their food. I don't think this is fair at all.

do they have expo's at your hall? That is how we did our picking. Most place I have learned no longer do just a tasting for one couple anymore. If they don't then they really should let you have a tasting or recomend they start having expos!

INSULT TO THE CHEF!!! Is that a joke?!?
I've said it many times before on this board, but I wouldn't even book my hall until I got a tasting.
So DEMAND one! It is their job!!

Let us know what happens after you talk with your BM.
