I am smoke free as of today

Original post by Dom n Nic

I decided to stop smoking as of today .
i picked today cause yesterday i finished my pack and i was not going to throw out that pack(smokers you know they are expensive)

1- its really not good for you
2- dh hates it and he told me that he does not want anything to happen to me . or when we have kids that if godforbid something did happen that my kids would lose me to something i could have avoided ..
and NUMBER 3 - the commercials with that guy who has throat cancer really scared the crap out of me .

i dont even like , i hate the smell i hate the cost of them now and i dont want that commerical to be me . i do it cause i am bored which is stupid but very true smokers will understand.

i am going to try very very hard to stick to this

girls who stopped was it hard?
did you crave it ?
please help me out here lol

some people tell me its a mental addiction and you get over that very fast

Re: I am smoke free as of today

First, I just want to say good for you!!

I quit smoking 5 years ago. I was a smoker in college and boy is it disgusting.

The first week is really hard, but the first time you climb stairs and are not out of breath it is so worth it.

Also, I chewed gum every time I craved one. To this day I am constantly chewing gum. I am slowly trying to break that habit.

Good luck and do not SMOKE!!!

Also, why don't you put the $ you would have spent on a pack of cigarettes into a jar and buy something for yourself. At today's rates, you can probably buy yourself something really nice in a month or less!

Re: I am smoke free as of today

I am a former smoker I smoked for 10 years! I got sick one day (had a cold) and it started making me feel really ill, so I put the pack down and that was it... or so I thought...

Four years later and I will still crave one. I don't know what it is, but if I am out drinking it's especially worse then. BE AWARE OF THOSE TIMES. Not every time I drink though... infact, it hasn't happened in a while

This is what I did...

#1 thanks to the smoking ban in bars during the time I quit, it helped immensly.

#2 Put a bag of DumDum lollipops in my car and instead of reaching for a smoke with my morning coffee on my drive to work, I would have a DumDum. Also keep them in your bag, wherever you can access one at time of craving.

#3 Give your craving 3-5 minutes to last. When you're really craving one, crave it, let it last for that time frame and the craving will stop. GET THROUGH 5 MINUTES... YOU CAN DO IT!!

What's the worse that can happen? You save your life???

You just made one of the MOST important decisions of your life... DON'T GIVE UP. It was VERY hard to do, but I'm telling you... YOU CAN DO IT

That's wonderful, Nic!!! Good for you!!!!!!

DH also quit about a month and a half ago and has been using the patch. It seems to be working for him. Sometimes he'll really want one but then the craving passes as he focuses on the reasons why he quit in the first place. Good luck!!
