I am so IRRITATED! Now I need a new pediatrician!

I just got a call from Paul's current pediatrician's office....we have to re-schedule his next appointment (which isn't until NOVEMBER) b/c the pediatrician is in the military reserves and she was just activated! She could be gone for 6 months to a year!

I am SO PISSED b/c this pediatrician came very highly recommended to me by our 'interim' doctor before we moved to our home. Now I have to start from scratch to find someone new....I could stay w/this practice, but I wasn't crazy about the location...I was just going there b/c the doctor was so highly regarded.

Anyone have a special love for a pediatrician in the Western Suffolk area?

Claud, John and I just asked our OB for recommendations and we were given 3 different ones, 2 right on main street in smithtown, that they themselves use for their children.
I dont have th #'s in front of me. I'll email you or fm you.

We like our practice (mid-suffolk pediatrics), but feel its just too huge of a practice (over 10 Drs) and might change to something smaller. so we asked them for referrals

Its kinda our fault that we never chose one Dr to 'stick witH' and see on a regular basis at the large practice. I felt since there are so many, why not meet all of them? But we were told several times to please try to go consistently to one Dr. I Was shocked that they didnt encourage meeting them all... We may stay there, we really like all the Dr's we met, I guess we just have to make that one connection and pick 'one' if we stay...

I love our pediatrician but they are in plainview. if that isn't too far i will give info...

Claud, I found one that came highly recommended to me by several people and I'm almost 100% sure it's who I'll be using.
It's a father, son, and 1 other doctor, and they are located right here in Smithtown.

I'll pass along the number if you want.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the moral support.

I am hesitant to try the mid-suffolk office b/c 11 doctors does sound like way TOO many. If you go in for sick visits, you'll likely NEVER see your 'regular' pediatrician. That's what I dislike about the office I am going to now - and there's only 4 doctors there! And, they have 4 nurses and 5 GP's too.

When we were going to Mineola (CPEC pediatrics), that was only 4 doctors - and we got to know all of them in the year we went there, so it wasn't so bad if we didn't get to see Paul's regular doctor.

That stinks!! I hated when I had to change from CPEC so I would hate to do it a second time. Our new ped is in New Hyde Park so that doesnt help you. I agree, 11 drs is way too many. Jenn's dr sounds like it's worth checking out.

Good luck. I know you hate doing it, but you're probably good at weeding out what you dont want in a ped by now.

Okay, here's the doctor my cousin and friends at work LOVE.

The main doctor ( I guess he's the one who started the practice) is Dr. Ancona. His son is a doctor there, and there is a female doctor too. The phone # is 979-6466.

Maybe we'll be meeting up in the waiting room one day!

I was told that at mid-suffolk I can request one primary doctor and stick with that one on most all occassions. I mean, at 2am I doubt I could request ONLY my regular doctor but on most normal visits I was told I could. is that NOT true? I also like the weekend hours.

Yep Michele, they actually STRONGLY encourage you to pick a Dr. they ask you who you saw last to try to get you the same Dr. I always asked for different to meet other ones. we like all of them really.

Michele, most practices actually encourage picking one 'regular' doctor for well visits - that's not the issue.

It's the sick visits and last minute, re-scheduled visits that could pose a problem - then you are forced to see a doctor on call or the covering doctor, depending how they run their practice. I personally do not like that system b/c I think it's important for your doctor to be familiar with your child (and vice versa) - especially when they are not feeling well. JMO.

You could always start off at that practice and then see how you like their system. If it's not working for you, than you look elsewhere. Did you at least get a recommendation for a primary doctor? I think that's important.

Anna - I know! I do admire her (the doc in the reserves), but I am just annoyed (selfishly) at the inconvenience to me!

I have an appt. w/Dr. Murphy on Monday, and I'm going to ask her for a pediatrician recommendation, too!
