I am starting to get sick of working in NYC!!!--venting

Original post by cw0904

The nasty, rude, dirty, obnoxious people really are starting to get to me. Its bad enough I have to come into the city to a place I hate. To deal with the idiots on the LIRR that are running me over to get to work, the geniuses on 7th Avenue that are always weaving in and out of traffic so they can keep walking. I am getting tired of it!!
Why does the job market have to be so bad. There are no signs of improvement either.
I would definitely take a pay cut and work in LI over dealing with this crap everyday.
Thanks for listening to me.

I think the homeless people you are talking about are the ones at 34th street? I don't know why they are allowed there- because obviously the bums are smart enough to lay on the PATH side. I take the Path into 23rd ST- there are no homeless there really except one guy who we are all nice to. And as far as Grove street goes- there aren't any there that i ever see.

The Path is better than the subway IMO, but it's great for me because I don't have to take the subway anymore.

I have to say that I would really never work ANYWHERE buy the city- I just love it.. when I worked on LI it wasn't the same.. I missed it...

Sassy, yes I meant 34th I didn't realize you get off before then. I mean, there are literally people laying on the floor....yesterday there was a bum in a wheelchair and his head was hanging over like he passed out and he dropped whatever was in his hands onto the floor....I thought he died! I didn't do anything and now I feel like a bad person. maybe he passed out.....I hope the cops helped him. I didnt see any cops around. And truthfully I was afraid to approach him because of diseases etc....

FH calls me a 'non-commuter.' He's right. I'm up at 6, on the train by 7, in to the city at like 8:45...by the time I get to work I'm a zombie. I'm all dazed and confused and I've already been up for 3 hours.

I told him I would looove to get a job on LI and I will glad take a slight paycut to do it. I'd honestly rather be stuck in traffic in a car than run that whole LIRR rat race everyday....

I take sitting in my car jamming to music in traffic over dealing with the idiots on the LIRR and in NYC. I have no idea how my father has done it this long. 29 years and still going!!! I prefer to be by myself than with idiots any day.

And the tourists don't get me started on the tourists. Why must you stand on the corner and take up the entire corner, looking around like your lost??? Jack a$$ move over by the wall and do what ever you have to do there not in the middle of the side walk!

I just don't see how I am going to take care of a house, work, cook and get in some exercise if I keep working in the city

I am at the point now where I have to make some decisions about what is more important, or how to fine the right balance.

Lisa...you described my switching from NYC to LI exactly...the people that I worked with in LI were awful...immature, catty, (chatting about getting nails done and gossiping about everyone), while in NYC (there was some backstabbing of course), but you could get some stimulating conversation.

but I cannot describe every workenvironment in LI...just glad to be gone...the reverse commute was nice though

Snowboardgirl that is also my problem. I don't have the time to squeeze in working out. I am so exhausted by the time I get home, I don't want to do anything but lay down.
Yabbobay your old office sounds like my current one. 50 something yr olds who act like they are 20.
Its such a man's world here it disgusts me. Most offices have something bad about them. I can go on for days talking bad about mine.

I want to work in a stimulating design environment, but close to home. I just don't know. Hopefully, I can find what I am looking for, and have some job security, like I have now.

I guess sometimes it can be bad. I guess if you try to make it in earlier so you do not have to deal with the rush, especially when your pregnancy progress. That might aid in combatting the rush and the crowds. Hey think of it, you will be on maternity leave soon and you will not have to deal with it for a while.

Can I chime in here too, I work in the heart of Times Square and do not dare venture out on Wednesdays not to mention all the idiots that want to get on TRL, and the IDIOTS who are on their cell phones and can't seem to walk and talk at the same time.

We then make the mad dash to Penn, to get to a platform where some people would shove their own mother on the tracks to get a seat. Have a lovely 1 hour plus train ride, get home, make dinner, spend some time with my son and hubby, go over homework, get him in the shower, clean up and try to squeeze in a workout.

What a life

my new idea is to get into the city to work out first, that way I beat the rush and get a lot done by 8:30! I should try this tomorrow morning. I would then have to carry my gym clotheson the train.

MichelleW I forgot you work in the Viacom bldg. I feel for you and the madness you deal with everyday. I take 6th ave to Penn b/c of the Times Sq. people traffic. So much nicer and quieter on 6th. You made me laugh with the push their own mother to get into the train thing LMAO!! THANK YOU!!! That really helped me a bit today. You are so right though. Its like 'Dude, the train isn't leaving for 10 MIN!! Relax!!!'

What I always do and learned the hard way is to let everyone in first. Why squeeze myself between idiots and their stinky BO and breathe to end up on the train 5 seconds earlier if I just wait till all the dashing idiots get in.

Last night someone had the nerve to say extremely loud: 'OH looks like everyone is running home early today!' STFU!!!! I wanted to trip him as he passed me. The guy next to me murmurs: 'Where have you been, idiot this is how packed the train always is.' I just had to laugh!

I think the PATH is 100x better than the subway! I take it from 34th St but come up from the subway by the mall and don't see the homeless men you speak of, maybe I come in a different way. SOOOO much cleaner, no funky smells, decent people, and it has more of a 'schedule' than the subway. I take the railroad to/from Hoboken and its also much better than the LIRR.

Wish I didn't have to take the subway, but its only 2 stops and to save time I **** it up.

But, MichelleW you're right, Times Square is crazy. My boss doesn't even come in on Wednesdays.

All in all I like working in the city, I would have to take a huge pay cut to work anywhere else and I'm not up for that yet!

wanda...I used to walk on 6th instead on 7th...just to avoid the tourists too!!

could it be your job in general that you don't like...I would start looking around for other jobs...doesn't hurt right?

I feel like there should be a forum of LIRR commuters so we can complain. How many of you Ronkonkoma people have stuffed yourselves onto the 5:22? Fun, huh? And if you don't get a seat, you'll be standing until Wyandanch

Kate-

Next time you go to get on the PATh, look up the hallway towards the entrance to the Manhattan mall.....people laying on the ground. sick!

LOL yes I used to work on 52nd and Broadway....do NOT venture out on Wednesday matinee day...unless you want to get run over by the old ladies 'in the city to do lunch and a show'

Re: I am starting to get sick of working in NYC!!!--venting

I think the whole Ronkonkoma line needs an overhaul. I work till 5:30, would it kill them to have an express train that maybe only makes 1 or 2 stops before Ronkonkoma

Last Friday was the worst there were these 2 young girls 'attempting' to act older and talking really loudly on their cell phones so the whole car could hear. I put my discman on to drown them out..NOT..I wanted so badly to reach over the seat and strangle her with the cord to my headphones
